Last week got a little 🤏🏽 sticky lol. The Florence County Disabilities Foundation came through and kicked off our first cooking class. On the menu: pancakes , sausages, OJ, & fruit cups. LC and Upper Florence got to enjoy this interactive experience and we can't wait for this week!

Special Needs Occupant Stickers Now Available

The Florence County Sheriff's Office is proud to offer FREE "Special Needs Occupant" stickers to members of our community.

These stickers are designed to help first responders quickly recognize that a vehicle or residence may be occupied by someone with special needs, allowing deputies, firefighters, EMS personnel, and other emergency responders to approach situations with greater awareness and understanding.

Individuals who may benefit from these stickers include those with:
• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
• Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia
• Intellectual or developmental disabilities
• Cognitive impairments
• Sensory processing disorders
• Other medical, physical, or behavioral conditions that may affect communication or responses during an emergency

The sticker may be placed:
🚓 On a vehicle window to alert first responders during traffic stops, crashes, or other roadside emergencies.
🏠 Near the entrance of a residence to notify responding emergency personnel that someone with special needs may be inside.

While the sticker does not provide specific medical information, it serves as an important visual cue that may encourage responders to use additional patience, communication techniques, and resources when appropriate.

Participation is completely voluntary, and the decision to display the sticker is left to each individual or family based on their comfort level.

If you or a loved one could benefit from a Special Needs Occupant sticker, please stop by the Florence County Sheriff's Office to pick one up at no cost.

Together, we can help make our community safer and ensure that every interaction between first responders and our citizens begins with greater understanding and compassion.
