A Five Sparrows graduate moved out of state after completing the program last year. She relocated, so she could be a part of her children's daily lives. We were so sad to see her go, but we celebrated this next phase of her journey.

I'm happy to report that the span of 700 miles hasn't kept her away. We regularly receive texts and photos and updates, but more than that, she provides Facetime and phone support to each new resident during their first 30 days in the program (and often longer).

She's an objective ear that's attached to someone who has experienced the difficulty of transitioning into 5S. She is understanding and compassionate while also having the distance and freedom to say the hard things.

We are so proud and so grateful for our girl while we miss her like crazy! 🩵🐦

We get by with a little help from our friends…

This feels like an awards show moment where I get just a few, brief moments to pour out my heartfelt gratitude before you scroll on by. In short, the United Way of Florence’s Day of Caring left us feeling very, very cared for!!

Thank you, Pepsi, for your longstanding friendship, a gorgeous yard at our second program residence, a new picnic table and umbrella, and a ramp for our storage shed!

Thank you, Synergi, for resident welcome baskets, a office that smells so clean I can’t wait to go back to work tomorrow, and for a spruced up yard at the office!

Thank you, Florence Center, for a beautiful yard tune-up at our first program home! You spoiled us!

Thank you, Raines Co, Webster Rogers, and The Continuum for blessing us with supplies for the program! Our back room looks like Christmas, and your generosity not only saves us the money we normally spend on these essentials but also the time it takes to stay well-stocked. You have made our hearts happy!

Your smiles, laughter, hard work, and kindness make me wish we worked together every day. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sharing is not always caring.

Rhonda, the Five Sparrows Program Director, is serious about residents not sharing drinks, Chapstick, lipstick, or anything else that can contribute to spreading sickness.

Today, two staff members, two current Five Sparrows residents who aspire to serve as peer supports, and a Five Sparrows graduate attended the NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness) South Carolina Conference in Columbia.

A Place at the Table.

Recently, we hosted two small events based on this theme.

The high school lunchroom table is a powerful metaphor for inclusion.

And exclusion.

Chances are you - like I - have been on both sides of that equation at some point in life.

We asked supporters and some new friends to the ministry to make room at their "tables" for the brave women we serve. We also asked those same supporters and new friends to join us at our table of fellowship and partnership, believing God together that His purposes might be accomplished in our community.

I extended the invitations, but our graduates brought power we were blessed to experience! If you are a supporter of Tenacious Grace, thank you for taking your place at the table. You are so valued! 🩵

We LOVE being a part of the nonprofit community in our city, and we believe in the healing properties of serving!

We’re so thankful for some of the team from Tenacious Grace for spending the day volunteering at the Foster Care Clothing Closet!

They jumped right in, worked hard, and helped us accomplish so much. We’re incredibly grateful for their servant hearts and willingness to give back.

Tenacious Grace operates Five Sparrows, a residential recovery program for justice-involved women who are overcoming trauma, addiction, and hardship. As part of their journey, residents serve through volunteer opportunities in the community, and we were honored to be one of them.

Thank you for the work you do and for making a difference alongside us!
