When God Gives You a Nudge… Listen. ❤️
Yesterday was one of those days when I was reminded that sometimes God is working behind the scenes long before we ever see the full picture.
Rooms With Love had the privilege of serving a family of four—a mom, dad, an 8-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl. We meet them all but the boy. This family lost everything when their home was destroyed by a storm and flooding. For five months, they bounced from place to place, staying with friends, until they finally had a place of their own.
They had a two-bedroom apartment, and they wanted each of their children to have their own bedroom. That meant the living room would become the family’s gathering space and the parents’ bedroom.
Their referral asked if there was any way we might have a hideaway sofa.
Normally, Rooms With Love does not accept hideaway couches. They are extremely heavy, and we don’t have a way to store them properly.
But recently, God connected us with an amazing man named Bruce, whom some of you may know through the incredible Samaritan Car Clinic in Covington. Bruce had furniture from his family stored away, and we had actually been to his storage unit twice. We knew there was a sofa bed there.
We had previously told him we couldn’t accept it.
But yesterday morning, I got a nudge.
Ask Bruce.
So I reached out and asked if he would be willing to bring that sofa bed to our facility specifically for this family to pick up.
He said yes.
I immediately knew that couch was meant for this family. ❤️
Regarding Sofa bed/hideaway couch- This was a special exception for this family because of their unique situation. We are still unable to accept sofa beds as part of our regular furniture donation program. ❤️
And then the pieces just kept falling into place.
Melody showed up yesterday and gave several hours of her time to help make all of this come together. She has such a huge heart for people, and she is incredibly talented at taking a million little details and somehow making them all work. She coordinated bedding for the little girl, the little boy, and Mom and Dad.
Watching her serve reminded me that sometimes the answer to a prayer isn’t just a piece of furniture—sometimes it’s a person God sends at exactly the right time.
Melody, thank you for showing up, for seeing the details, for using your gifts, and most of all, for loving this family before you even met them. You are such a gift to Rooms With Love. ❤️
And then came another nudge…
Remember that video game chair that was donated? Ask. Is your son a gamer?
This little boy is a gamer. So a trip around back to one of our storage units, we pulled that chair out for the family, Dad immediately said, “That chair is almost exactly like the one our son lost.”
I was trying so hard not to get emotional.
I don’t like that this family had to endure losing their home and everything they owned. I don’t like that their children experienced that kind of upheaval.
But standing there, watching these pieces come together, I couldn’t help but tell them:
“I want you to know how much God loves you. He hasn’t forgotten you.”
Because yesterday, a sofa bed that we normally wouldn’t accept became a place for Mom and Dad to sleep.
A donated gaming chair became something familiar for a little boy who had lost his.
Bedding became beds.
And an empty apartment began to feel a little more like home.
The daughter couldn’t wait to get into her new room. The family was emotional and incredibly grateful.
And I was reminded once again:
God is in the details.
Sometimes He asks us to step outside our normal process.
Sometimes He sends a nudge to just ask.
Sometimes the answer has been sitting in a storage unit waiting for the right family.
And sometimes we get to witness the beautiful moment when it all comes together.

And thank you to every person in our community who has donated furniture, money, time, bedding, prayers and encouragement.
You may never know exactly where your donation ends up.
But yesterday, some of your generosity filled a home.
And more importantly, it reminded a family who has been through so much that they are loved, seen and not forgotten.
