This year's benefactor is the Shadows Foundation - a wonderful, local charity that is dedicated to helping individuals in need who are affected by life-threatening illness by providing services and financial assistance when they need it most, with emphasis on the families of first responders and community service members. Through donations and grants, The Shadows Foundation steps up and supports the families by taking care of expenses, leaving them to focus on treatment and recovery!

Johnny McKeever has been in treatment for Severe Immune Dysregulation since June, when his immune system began attacking his liver. He has not responded even to the most drastic treatments available. Johnny is now experiencing bone marrow failure, re-quiring weekly blood product transfusions. It has been determined that a lifesaving stem cell transplant will be needed as soon as possible.

A senior in high school, Johnny had to transfer to online school after the first few weeks of school. He has had to give up football, basketball, and baseball. It was hoped Johnny would be able to rejoin his classmates in the spring semester to finish out his senior year, unfortunately now that won’t be possible.

Johnny will now spend a minimum of 6-8 weeks in the hospital for the transplant and will need to stay in Phoenix for at least 100 days after his transplant.

The McKeever family has roots in the Williams/Flagstaff communities. Johnny's father Robert has been a Deputy with Coconino County for 21 years, beginning his career in Williams. The last 12 years he has served in the Forest Lakes community. Johnny's mom Stephanie is a registered nurse, who worked 20 years at Flagstaff Medical Center and is currently commuting to work in Mesa.

The Shadows Foundation has set up an account in behalf of Johnny’s family to help them with the financial costs. Donations can be made online at Shadowsfoundation.org. Click on the donate button.
