We remember Dan’s commitment to literacy and especially his drive to provide free books to the public. He supported our community in so many ways and with such joy and vigor. We are sure that he would get such a kick out of being remembered by helping the children of our community to own their books. To be able to put their names in their favorites and keep them to read and re-read them for as long as they wanted. Many of us, even in our later years, will bring out one of our favorite children’s books to read to our grandchildren. Developing a love for reading and learning is why it is important to provide children with books.
We will be setting up book drop-off boxes in our community and collecting money to buy new books to give out. Currently, Literacy Volunteers has a donor willing to match, dollar for dollar, the first $500 given in Dan’s name. If you are interested in helping out with this project by sponsoring a book drop-off box, donating gently used or new children’s books, or giving a monetary donation, please get in touch with Literacy Volunteers through our page, call or text 207-500-3131, or email [email protected]. Our website, westermaineliteracy.org, includes a donation link and more information about our programming.
If you would like to donate books, we currently have drop-off locations at The Farmington Community Center, the Farmington Public Library, Twice Sold Tales, and Devaney Doak & Garrett Booksellers. Alternatively, feel free to reach out to us, and we would gladly arrange a time to meet for drop-off.
