1,000 birds. That’s how many patients Avian Haven has cared for in 2026 so far!

241 are in our care right now. Half are babies eating 60,000 mealworms a week (among other foods). Half are injured and ill adults — each with their own story of survival. We’ve cared for 142 species so far this year.

Every single one arrived because someone in Maine stopped, picked up the phone, and asked for help.

If you find a bird in distress, that call matters. (207) 382-6761 — we’re here 365 days a year, and we have volunteers across the state ready to bring birds to us.

Nonprofit based in Freedom, Maine, rehabilitating ~3,000 birds annually. If this moved you, share it — someone you know may need this number someday. 🐦

Yesterday marked the start of .

Whether they share our homes, roam Maine's woods and waters, or live on farms, all animals deserve compassion, respect, and protection from neglect and cruelty.

Animal Rights Awareness Week reminds us that animals depend on us to speak up for them and advocate for a more humane world. Through education, thoughtful conversations, and support for stronger protections, each of us can help make a difference.

💚✨MFOA Monday✨💚

This week, we’re shining a light on “An Act To Provide for the Well-Being of Companion Animals Upon the Dissolution of Marriages,” as this week marks five years since it became Maine law in June 2021. For five years, Maine courts have considered the well-being of companion animals in divorce proceedings.
