A father and son from the Island, Rogerio da Silva Lima, and his son, Nycolas de Al Varenga Lima, a student at MVRHS, were taken from Menemsha by the U.S. Coast Guard into ICE custody on Monday. When a call came into a local hotline, Islanders scrambled to keep the pair from being sent out of state to Texas.

The incident took place during a planned fishing day. Now, the pair are detained in an ICE facility in Burlington as a federal judge reviews their cases in Boston. Meanwhile, Islanders launched a fundraising campaign for them.
