Area 2 Farms preaches the virtues of local farms & being part of the community. But they don't just talk about it; they act. Last week they donated and delivered 2 cubic yards of soil blend to HOH for The EGG, where HOH grows food for communities in need. That soil is now nourishing our spring crops. Season 3 of growing at The EGG in Annandale kicked off yesterday with middle and high schoolers all the way to retired-but-you-wouldn't-know-it folks. New and experienced gardeners of all backgrounds came together to plant seeds that in a few months will be harvested and donated to local pantries. Join us! Thank you to the Arbor Row Center and 50+ for hosting seed planting with HOH as part of its Wellness in Action service program. HOH is seeking more volunteers to start seeds for our community gardens and our volunteer growers who donate harvest to pantries. We provide seeds and can provide trays and seed-starting medium. Join us Sunday in central Annandale for a native plant workday. WHERE: The EGG, Eileen Garnett Civic Space, 7200 Columbia Pike
WHEN: Come any time 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to remove weeds/cover crops and replace them with native plants.

We'll provide refreshments, a cooler of iced water, gloves and tools. Bring a water bottle and dress grubby -- Saturday's rain means the soil will be wet (which also makes it easier to plant in).

PARKING: The garden is between the fire department and the ACCA child development center. Park in the ACCA lot or on Daniels Avenue.

Join us on Sunday (8/31) as we put the finishing touches on our newest community garden (Mission Center, 7901 Heritage Drive, Annandale). We'll be finishing the garden beds, planting vegetable and herb seedlings, and putting up a new gate. We'll have snacks and a kids' art project to decorate the gate. HOH will be there 10 am to 2 pm, but feel free to come for part of the time. RSVP [email protected]. Annandale VA Community Group
