Days of Our THRIVE: When Saving Lives Matters

Thursday

THRIVE is a safe space where people feel comfortable opening up, sharing what they are experiencing, and asking for help without fear of judgment.🙏

Thank you, Southcoast Health Outreach, DTA, Child & Family Services, First Step Inn, and UnitedHealthcare. They were all there, connecting our unsheltered neighbors with essential services, benefits, assistance, and health insurance.🥰

The Southcoast Health Outreach team
Stephanie, Jovi, and Sara Lapointe
is always alert and ready to respond. They are not afraid to step into difficult situations and do what needs to be done when someone is experiencing a serious or potentially life threatening medical need. Thank you! 🙏🥰

At THRIVE, we encounter many different situations. Some require more than a meal or a change of clothing. They require immediate attention, compassion, good judgment, and people who are willing to act. This is why having trusted community partners present can truly make a life-saving difference.🥰

One of our generous donors, Laura, drove 2½ hours to volunteer and experience a day at THRIVE. Thank you, Laura, for traveling so far to serve alongside us!🥰🙏

We love our THRIVE team—it is more like a family. Joan, Manny, Chelsea, Lisa, Lynn, Fillip, and Eric, thank you for always stepping up, working together, and caring for our neighbors.🥰🙏

And then there is Helen Sullivan, our faithful “milk lady!” Helen is always willing to increase the number of gallons she provides whenever our community needs more. We appreciate her so much!🥰🙏

Every person and every organization brings something important. Together, we are creating a place where our unsheltered neighbors are seen, heard, cared for, and connected to help that can sometimes save a life. 🥰

Days of THRIVE

Saturday brought us an unexpected and wonderful visitor. Vinny! She was one of our earliest unsheltered neighbors until she was housed four years ago, she looked wonderful, and it was truly good to see her.🥰🙏

Shorty's Pub came through in a pinch with delicious chop suey. When we served the meal, you could have heard a pin drop, for real, not a peep, just pure silence as everyone enjoyed every bite! Thank you, Shorty’s Pub, for showing such kindness to our unsheltered neighbors.🥰🙏

Blessed Trinity PNCC take home meal bags were distributed, full to the brim, with Gatorade and a fresh plum for each person.Thank you!🥰🙏

Thank you, Marlene Moreira Santos, for using a stipend to purchase much needed men’s razors, deodorant, and clothing for our neighbors.🥰🙏

When we ran out of milk, Dawn stepped right in with another gallon and brought cereal, too!🥰🙏

I and two other volunteers were unable to be there Saturday, but our volunteers graciously stepped up and made sure everything was taken care of.🥰

came in on a Saturday to volunteer and help wherever she was needed. She is truly a blessing!🥰🙏

Chelsea Caisse and Eric arrived early to get everything ready, and Carolin, Lynn, Fillip stepped up to fill in, Thank you! 🥰🙏
Eric picked up our hot lunch and made sure it arrived for everyone to enjoy. 🥰🙏

This is what THRIVE looks like: people noticing a need, stepping forward, and making sure our neighbors are cared for with compassion, dignity, consistency, and humanity. 🥰🙏

Days of Our THRIVE: A Morning Filled With Goodness Episode

Our morning began with breakfast, warm conversations, and caring volunteers ready to serve our unsheltered neighbors.

Tday’s bagged lunches were provided by Kim Gosson Almeida scrumptious subs, bags filled with goodies and refreshing drinks! Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. 🥰

Joan Galford prepared a scrumptious, mild chili, full of flavor without the spice, along with a variety of desserts and drinks.🥰

Manny arrived with delicious blackberries and, as always, a heart ready to serve. 🥰

Carolin Jane Berry was constantly moving about, making sure our neighbors’ needs were met while taking time to offer conversation and connection.🥰

Filip Cruz faithfully served as our hall and bathroom monitor, directing and guiding everyone wherever needed.🥰

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome Chelsea Caisse back after her hospital stay! Thank you to everyone who prayed for her recovery. We are so grateful to have her with us again. ❤️🙏

Lynn Ann was also with us today but unfortunately reinjured her ankle. Please keep her in your prayers for healing and a full
Recovery. 🥰

Eric, we can’t forget, Eric, bringing in the food, taking out the food, keeping an eye out on the premises and going to the store. What would we do without you? 🥰😂

, from Southcoast Health Community Outreach bringing her smile and helpful answers, resources, and support for our unsheltered neighbors.🥰

Another beautiful day of food, service, connection, and community at THRIVE because sometimes the most meaningful thing we can offer is a meal, an answer, a conversation, and the reminder that someone truly cares.🙏🥰

Douglas, our newest volunteer, who came ready to give back and was incredibly courteous and helpful

We are also grateful to:🥰

DAYS OF OUR THRIVE…
Like sands through the hourglass… so are the Days of Our THRIVE. 😂

This week’s episode had it all: pizza, sandwiches, soup, teamwork, a little pivoting, and would you believe it a wonderfully peaceful Saturday! 🙏

Thursday’s hot meal: A HUGE thank you once again to our favorite Domino’s on South Main Street Domino's Pizza for donating 12 LARGE cheese pizzas! We served them with chips, snacks and drinks, and our neighbors enjoyed a great sit-down lunch.🥰

Saturday’s episode: Edible Creations by Gerry blessed us with hearty ham & cheese and turkey & cheese on bread rolls, along with snacks and drinks. What a bagged spread! Thank you for helping us make Saturday delicious.🥰 never miss a beat with your humor!! 😂😂😂

And then came the plot twist…
We were missing a few volunteers!

But at THRIVE, we pivot! Manny, Pat, Filip, Carolin and Eric graciously jumped in wherever they were needed, and everything came together. Thank you for serving with such great hearts. 🥰

And somehow, with all the moving pieces, Saturday turned out to be such a nice, peaceful day. We’ll take that episode anytime! 😂

Thursday’s Collaboration of Care was magnificent, as always. Our community partners continue answering the call, coming alongside our unsheltered neighbors and helping them move toward greater stability, health and hope.🥰

Thank you to Southcoast Health Community Outreach, Child & Family Services, First Step Inn, UnitedHealthcare, and every partner who shows up and works together. This is what collaboration looks like.🥰

A special thank you to Jeff at First Baptist Church of Fall River for the donated soup. We served it over rice with chicken for Thursday’s hot lunch, and the flavor was AMAZING!🥰🙏

thank you for the bagged lunches week after week. Our neighbors look forward to them. Your commitment and consistency mean more than you know. You continue to show up, and you never disappoint.🙏🥰

And PJ, THANK YOU for all of your donations and continued generosity toward THRIVE and the neighbors we serve. We appreciate you tremendously!🥰

Thank you Elizabeth Milan for the four trash bags of men’s clothing. They will be in style this fall. Thoughtfulness at its finest. 🥰

Another episode in the books. ☺️

There may be plot twists.
There may be last minute pivots.
There may occasionally be a missing cast member. 😂

But there will ALWAYS be people willing to step up, serve, collaborate and care.🥰🙏

Until next time… these are the DAYS OF OUR THRIVE. 😂🥰

CHAPA is urging the conference committee to carry these three priority housing policies into the final bill:

YIGBY - Allowing multifamily housing as-of-right on land owned by religious institutions (Yes In God’s Back Yard), reducing local barriers to development while requiring meaningful affordability. (In the House bill.)

Duplexes - Allowing duplexes as-of-right in every residentially-zoned district across the state. (In the Senate bill.)

Site plan review - Establishing a statewide site plan review process that replaces today’s town-by-town patchwork with clear standards and firm timelines. (In both bills.)

The House and Senate have named the conferees who will negotiate the final bill:

House

Rep. Aaron Michlewitz

Rep. Carole Fiola

Rep. Michael Soter

Senate

Sen. Barry Finegold

Sen. Michael Rodrigues

Sen. Peter Durant

Building new homes and protecting the affordable homes we already have both matter for the state’s economy. When housing is scarce and costs keep climbing, workers leave Massachusetts, employers struggle to hire, and too many families are left choosing between rent and other basic needs.
