Special shoutout to our two qualifiers for the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, Scioto Country Club’s Jared Hoelzen and Brookside Golf and Country Club’s Mitchell Cook!!!!

Jared finished solo second in the 49th SOPGA Assistants Professional Championship at Beavercreek GC to earn his trip to PGA Golf Club. Mitchell made birdie on the first playoff hole for the final qualification spot.

In red figures and heading home with some hardware! Congratulations to Alex Gomia for winning the 2026 SOPGA Assistants Professional Championship!!! An assistant at TPC River’s Bend, Alex was the only player to finish in red figures this year.

For much of Friday, Mia Hammond and Gabby Woods took turns putting on a show.

The young phenom. The defending champion.

By day's end, it was Hammond standing alone at the top after a brilliant 4-under 67 at Heatherwoode Golf Club.

But with Woods, Victoria Elizabeth, Kary Hollenbaugh, Allie White and a host of contenders still lurking, the Ohio Women's Open is far from decided.

Tomorrow, someone leaves with a trophy.

The 2026 Ohio Women's Open begins tomorrow at Heatherwoode Golf Club, and the championship field may be the deepest in tournament history.

Southern Ohio PGA Professional Ashley Thomas joins two-time Michigan PGA Women's Open champion Jessica Welch and Miamisburg native Molly Skapik.
