The Escondido Street Stewards braved the heat this past Saturday 8/08 to pick up litter along both sides of W. Mission Rd (from Nordahl to Enterprise).
So much litter out there, especially on the South side of the road which has the bike path, but we got 'er done. And one of our dedicated volunteers found something extra cool (see picture below).
Huge thanks to Republic Services GM Jody McKnight for giving permission to have our team assemble in their parking lot.

Before the reopening of the City of Escondido’s Escondido Public Library, which happens on Saturday, August 1 with a community Ribbon Cutting and Open House, the Escondido Street Stewards cleaned up the surrounding streets around Broadway, Kalmia, and Juniper between 2nd and 3rd.

A total of 18 Escondido Street Stewards, including three kids, coordinated with residents in the South Tulip neighborhood on Saturday, July 11 to help tidy its streets. The walking portion of the cleanup started near the corner of 10th Ave. and Tulip St. and included a few of the alleys throughout the neighborhood.

Escondido through its Neighborhood Services Division’s Neighborhood Cleanup program had dumpsters at the meeting site, making it easy to dispose of the bags collected.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered as this now marks multiple years helping out in the South Tulip neighborhood.

The Escondido Street Stewards hit the beach this morning to support the Surfrider Foundation's Morning After Mess event in Oceanside.
The 4th of July is the most highly attended beach day of the year — and it leaves behind an oversized mess 🙁. July 5th is considered the dirtiest beach day of the year, and what beachgoer doesn't like a clean beach?
The event volunteers were able to pick up about 160 lbs of litter 💪🏽
Interested in joining our efforts but maybe the beach is not your thing? On July 11, the Esco Street Stewards will be cleaning up the South Tulip neighborhood (details will be posted soon).

The Escondido Street Stewards (ESS) partnered with the Escondido Rotary Club for their regular Adopt-A-Highway outing on Saturday, June 20. ESS started at 8 a.m. on east side of the Hwy 78 and Centre City Pkwy interchanges, and even had a visit from a red-tailed hawk. Together, our combined crew of 13 volunteers cleared 20 bags of trash and 2 bags of recyclables.

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up to keep our community beautiful.

During this morning’s Second Saturday litter cleanup, our team also collected a plethora of cigarette butts/filters. There were far too many to count, but best guess would be about 500-600 (aluminum can in picture added for scale).
The volunteers made a game of collecting them, seeing how many could be picked up with one grab of the picker. The record was qty 7 😀
The butts are recyclable thru TerraCycle US, which makes a donation to other non-profits, however our group doesn't collect a cent.
Our motivation is to keep our streets clean and to prevent them from getting into the storm drains and avoid polluting the waterways and ocean downstream.

Our June “Second Saturday” group cleanup on June 13 partnered with Interfaith Community Services (ICS) and their volunteers to clean up around their Quince/Washington Ave location. More than 20 volunteers participated in the morning cleanup.

A huge thank you to every volunteer who joined us, which included Street Stewards’ captains from Poway and Santee, and for helping keep this Escondido space clean for the community.

A crew of five Esco Street Stewards worked our CalTrans adoption this morning (Via Rancho Pkwy exit/Hwy 15 North).
The team collected 5 large bags of litter, about 36 lbs worth, and 121 cigarette butts/filters, along with a few other recyclables.
Interested in joining our efforts? The hard way is to get a court order for community service to pick up litter along the freeway, but the much easier way is to send an email to:

This morning we were able to catch up with Dan the Man as he picked up litter around City Hall and the California Center for the Arts grounds.
Dan is an inspiration, and is a good friend of ours as well as with the Love Esco team.
