Have you or anyone you know ever wanted to work on a Tall Ship? Seeking new adventures and life experiences? Interested in living history? Do you love working outdoors with the sun on your back and a fresh breeze blowing? If so, we have just the thing for you!

LETTIE G. HOWARD is seeking Deckhand applicants for the 2026 sailing season. LETTIE G HOWARD operates out of Erie, Pennsylvania offering public day sails and sail training programs. Prior experience preferred, but not strictly necessary.

The Deckhand position is an opportunity to get your start in the world of Tall Ship Sailing. Deckhands are expected to be in good physical condition, as the demands of a working sailing ship are physically challenging. Deckhands will be expected to assist with the docking operations of the ship, hauling sail 3-4 times a day, steering and navigation, among other shipboard operations. A good Deckhand will also have a positive attitude when interacting with passengers and trainees.

Pay is hourly dependent on experience, including tips.

That's a wrap!
Shrink Wrap, that is! Today Lettie's crew and volunteers removed the protective shrink wrap that makes up Lettie's winter cover. Not only that, but they managed to take the frame for the cover down as well, getting her in good shape to move to her summer home at Dobbins Landing.

A HUGE thank you and shout out to a few special volunteers. Dr. Jeannette Schnars and a few others from the Regional Science Consortium came down to help recycle Lettie's plastic as part of the Clean Marinas program! The Clean Marinas program is a nationwide effort to help keep plastic pollution out of landfills and our waters by recycling shrink wrap used on boats. We are honored to participate in such a wonderful program and to do our part to help keep our beautiful Presque Isle Bay clean!

We would also like to thank our local Sea Scouts chapter for helping out. Not only was their hard work appreciated today, but they also are a huge help to the RSC and Clean Marinas program by assisting with the collection and processing of the shrink wrap in the region!
