A statement from the President and by extension the Executive board of NWPA Pride alliance:

Look, I'm flattered that we make putting on events look easy.
But events for the public don't just happen on wishes and good will because you want something to be there.
And before I was the one doing it all those years ago I also did not know what goes into putting on any kind of event for the public.
I'll always be the first to say that it's okay to not know things.
Even something as simple as a parade like the one we cancelled today comes with months of work.
Permits, insurance, deposits, fees, phone calls and emails.
So many emails.
We watched the weather all week. I have three weather apps on my phone alone. and three more on my desktop computer.
We debated it for days, and this morning we had to make a choice. We had a limited amount of time to make it, and with the information we had at the time it was the right choice.
The wind shifted a little and sure, we probably could have done it.
But if it had shifted a little in another direction it would have been dangerous to have hundreds of people that you're essentially responsible for outside with nowhere to shelter them from a storm.
It's a hard call. Every time we have to make it.
But this is the risk you run when you have things outdoors.
We don't enjoy having to cancel because of weather.
It's disheartening to have to just cancel something you've spent months working on because you want to provide it to the community.
But it happens.
I'm not really sure how to finish this except to say that's nice to see that so many people were looking forward to attending?

Hey folks! So, we're keeping an eye on the weather and it looks like we might be getting some thunderstorms tomorrow during the exact time we are supposed to be marching in the parade.

The safety of our participants and spectators is our top priority. Given that the forecast could change, for better or for worse, we have decided to make a final determination tomorrow morning about whether the parade will proceed.

You will receive an email from us no later than 10:00 a.m. with an update if you've registered. We will also be posting updates here.

Unfortunately, this is not an event that can be easily rescheduled. If the parade is canceled tomorrow, we will not be able to hold another parade until 2027.

This is one of the reasons we recognize Pride Month. 10 years ago today these beautiful souls needlessly and senselessly lost their lives to an act of terror. Never forget them.
