Enumclaw Youth Empowered

Enumclaw Youth Empowered Enumclaw Youth Empowered, a community coalition, dedicated to preventing youth substance use & abuse!

Enumclaw Youth Empowered is an involved group of volunteers who have come together to engage, educate and empower our community to reduce and prevent underage drug and alcohol use. We are committed to promoting health and well-being in our community. Our Coalition is participating in the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI), a Washington State program to plan, develop, and implement

community-wide strategies to reduce and prevent underage drug and alcohol use in Enumclaw. Enumclaw has an underage drug and alcohol consumption issue that, in some cases, is 50% higher than the state-wide average. We want to engage the wider community, educate families, and empower our young people to make healthy choices.

Teen plans change all the time ๐Ÿ“….

The one thing that shouldnโ€™t change is getting home safely ๐Ÿ . A simple agreement makes it easier to talk before they go out, particularly if alcohol may be involved. ๐Ÿš—โš ๏ธ.

Know another parent or caregiver who would agree? Share this with them ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Talking to your teen about not drinking doesnโ€™t have to feel awkward. ๐Ÿ’›

Sometimes all you need is one good question to start.

Start Talking Nowโ€™s online Conversation Cards give you simple prompts to help you start talking and keep it going. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Thank You, Alex!

A huge THANK YOU to Alex Sirotzki, MPH, from the Washington Poison Center for speaking with the Enumclaw Youth Empowered Coalition this week! Alex shared valuable information about kratom and 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), including current trends, health impacts, and what families and communities should know about these emerging substances.

One key takeaway: while kratom is a plant-derived substance, some products containing 7-OH can act similarly to opioids and may carry significant health risks. The Washington Poison Center has seen an increase in kratom and 7-OH related cases, highlighting the importance of education, awareness, and prevention.

If you have questions about a potential poisoning or substance exposure, the Washington Poison Center is available 24/7 at 1-800-222-1222. The service is free, confidential, and available in more than 200 languages.

Our coalition will continue learning and discussing how substances like kratom impact youth, adults, and our community.

โ˜€๏ธ Have a safe and wonderful summer! EYE will not meet in July or August, and we look forward to reconnecting with everyone in September.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, service, and dedication will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this holiday weekend, letโ€™s also take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who gave everything to protect them.

The EYE Coalition wishes our community a safe, meaningful, and connected Memorial Day. โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™
