Northmont Rotary was pleased to welcome Tom Sorna and Father Seraphine as our speakers this week to share their work on a Clean Water Project in Tanzania. They are currently raising funds to drill a clean water well in the village of Idodyandole, where some residents must walk 3–5 miles roundtrip to obtain water.

Tom and Father Seraphine shared insights into the culture of the village, its current water challenges, the well-drilling process and costs, and plans to ensure the new well is secured and maintained for years to come. At the conclusion of the presentation, Northmont Rotary was proud to make a $1,000 donation through The Dayton Foundation to support the Clean Water Project and help bring a safe, reliable source of water to the people of Idodyandole. Service Above Self!

Imagine walking miles every day just to collect dirty water. 💧

That’s the reality for the women and children of Idodyandole, a village in Tanzania with no clean water source. The Precious Blood priests can drill a well—but they need financial support to make it happen.

Clean water is one of Rotary’s core missions, and this project is exactly why. A well in Idodyandole will save lives, protect children, and strengthen an entire community.

Our meeting September 1st will have a presentation from a representative of Tanzania. If you are interested in helping to bring clean water to this village, reach out to Jared Brumbaugh or Cathy McGrail.

Northmont Rotary was proud to recognize club member Sherrie Murphy with a Paul Harris Fellow Pin with Two Rubies! Named in honor of Rotary founder Paul Harris, Paul Harris Fellow recognition was established in 1957 to recognize and encourage significant support of The Rotary Foundation and its humanitarian work around the world.
The two rubies on Sherrie’s pin represent an impressive level of continued support of the Foundation and its mission of doing good in communities locally and across the globe. Congratulations to Sherrie on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your continued commitment to Rotary and Service Above Self!

Northmont Rotary welcomes two new members this week. New Northmont Superintendent Eric Hughes and new Executive Director of the Kleptz YMCA Paul Schreiber were pinned as new members. We are excited to have Eric and Paul join our club!

This week our guest speaker was Micah Harding, Athletic Director at Northmont High School. Micah kicked off his presentation with some fun Northmont sports trivia before providing an overview of the school's athletic department. He shared updates on the many programs, accomplishments, and opportunities available to Northmont student-athletes, highlighting the important role athletics plays in developing teamwork, leadership, and school pride. We appreciate Micah's dedication to supporting Thunderbolt athletics and the students who represent Northmont both on and off the field.

Northmont Rotary was pleased to welcome Paul Nabel, Chief of Police for the Clayton Police Department, as our speaker this week. Chief Nabel shared his professional background and the experiences that have shaped his career in law enforcement before providing an update on the many services the Clayton Police Department offers to the community. His presentation highlighted the department’s commitment to public safety, community engagement, and building strong relationships with the residents they serve. We appreciate Chief Nabel taking the time to share the important work being done to keep Clayton a safe and welcoming community.

Northmont Rotary was blessed to welcome David R. Webb Sr., Founder and CEO of The Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center, as our speaker this week. David shared the inspiring story behind the museum’s mission to preserve and celebrate the rich legacy of funk music, with a special focus on Dayton’s remarkable influence on the genre. He also highlighted the center’s commitment to educating future generations through music, history, and the arts while honoring the many legendary artists who helped make Dayton the "home of funk." It was a fascinating reminder of the incredible musical heritage found right here in our community.

Northmont Rotary was pleased to welcome Emily Eck, Executive Director of Northmont FISH, as our speaker this week. Emily shared updates on the organization’s continued impact, currently serving 75–80 households regularly, with that number growing to 90–100 during the holiday season. Exciting facility improvements are coming this summer, including a new A/C unit and parking lot resurfacing. There are also new meaningful ways to get involved, such as Family Serve Nights, where volunteers ages 3-11 pack food orders; and Teen Takeover opportunities for youth to support pantry operations. We also congratulate Northmont FISH on being recognized as Northmont Rotary’s Nonprofit of the Year this past March!
