Dharamsala Animal Rescue

Dharamsala Animal Rescue Our mission is to create a better world for animals and people by ending the human/street dog conflict. My life was good, but something was missing.
(243)

When I was about to turn 40, I decided I needed to do something that would really expand my horizons. A feeling of making a true contribution on this planet was lacking deep down inside of me. The need to fill that void led me to Dharamsala, India to spend several weeks volunteering at a preschool. Working with the children proved completely overwhelming, as did the chaotic culture of India. What

truly got to me, however, was seeing an injured and bloody dog lying in the temple where the school was held, apparently left to die. It broke my heart to watch the dog suffer — and to see how little the local people seemed to care about his condition. I was saddened by the reactions, and felt helpless. Incredibly, my path crossed with a local man who knew someone who could help. Miraculously, my actions and concern sparked a change. Today, I am happy to report the dog, Tommy, is healthy and cared for by this very village. Upon returning home to the USA, I knew I needed to do everything in my power to improve the lives of the street animals. I created Dharamsala Animal Rescue to raise awareness about the animals of Dharamsala and fund local projects.” – Deb Jarrett, Founder

Sometimes, saving a life doesn’t mean knowing what to do.
🥺 It simply means choosing not to look away.

When this dog was drowning, these people could have walked past. Instead, they stepped into the river and chose to help.

Maybe compassion is not about whether someone is human or animal.
Maybe it’s simply about seeing a life in danger and caring enough to save it.

🫶🏻 Because to that dog, their kindness meant everything.

⚠️ Emergency Rescue: Late night hit-and-run left Spike unable to stand.

Spike’s feeders found him the next morning, unable to get up.
Thinking he may have been bitten by a snake, they rushed him to DAR.

But X-rays and tests revealed the heartbreaking truth…

💔 It wasn't a snake. It was a vehicle.

The driver didn't use his brakes, and that one decision changed everything for Spike.

His hip is displaced and the vehicle's impact has caused severe nerve compression, leaving Spike in unbearable pain

🥺 Thankfully, Spike is safe at DAR now. But he urgently needs:

→ Orthopedic care for his hip displacement
→ Treatment and monitoring for nerve compression
→ Pain management and supportive care
→ Nutritious food and close medical monitoring

🆘 Spike needs ₹19,800 ($210) for his treatment and recovery.
But even ₹50 can help. 🤍

🙏 Please donate today and help Spike get the care he needs to stand again.

💔 They’re not used to the rain, they are used to surviving it alone.

🥺 When the streets turn cold and every corner is soaked, they have nowhere warm to go. No dry bed. No safe shelter. Just another night spent shivering and waiting for the rain to stop.

But sometimes, one sheltered corner can change their entire night.

🤍 One bowl of clean water can ease their thirst. One meal can quiet an empty stomach. One open gate can give them a shelter they wouldn’t find anywhere else.
One small act of kindness can remind them that someone cares.

🌧️ You don’t have to save every dog.
You just have to help one dog whenever you can.

🥺 Choose them, when the world so often chooses to look away.

🤍 25 beautiful young minds at Harmony Day Care Center, Dharamshala, joined us for a special dog safety and awareness session.

We taught them how to understand dogs, respect their space, and stay safe around them — including “Be a Tree” and “Be a Stone” if they ever feel scared around a dog.

They also learned what to do after a bite: tell a trusted adult and wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water. And instead of simply telling them, we let them practice it themselves.

🥹 But what touched us most was their eagerness to learn. They listened, participated, laughed, made an “I Love DAR Dogs” poster, and showed us so much warmth.

This session reminded us that awareness should be inclusive, patient, and made accessible to everyone.

And these 25 incredible children taught us something too: kindness has no limits. 🤍

🌧️ The rain has caused immense damage to our shelter’s roofs.

🐾 Over 1,300 dogs have already come through DAR this year for life-saving care. But now, heavy monsoon damage has left major parts of our facility leaking including our office, diagnostic lab, and a building full of kennels, while the night-duty room needs an entirely new roof.

We can only do this work with a safe, functioning clinic.

🥺 We need to raise ₹2.3 lakhs to make these repairs.

Will you help us repair our roofs so we can continue helping the voiceless?

🙏 Please donate now and help us restore the shelter that helps us keep saving lives.

🥺 Blossom was found on the streets with one side of her face completely swollen.

For weeks, she needed medical treatment, careful monitoring, and round-the-clock care. Slowly, the swelling came down, her comfort returned, and Blossom started looking like herself again.

🐾 Today, this beautiful girl has completely recovered.
Our strong girl looks like her beautiful self again.
