We are deeply saddened by the passing of Victor Wittmann, a valued colleague, friend, and member of the lighting design community.

As a member of the IALD Lighting Industry Resource Council (LIRC), Victor was a valued partner to the lighting design profession. He will be remembered for his dedication, the relationships he built, and the contributions he made to our industry.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

For those who wish to honor his memory and offer their support, a fundraising initiative has been established in his name:

Last night's full moon had competition in Austin. 🌕 The city that hosted 2026 is also the only city that has preserved their original moon towers, the 19th century precursor to street lighting.

The spec? Enough light to read a watch 150 feet from the base, on the darkest night. Charles Thompson, from ARCHILLUME, took us on a journey in his closing keynote a history of the moon towers and in many ways a history of Austin itself. Failed dams, serial-killer stories, a cameo in Dazed and Confused and a new life as the Zilker Holiday Tree.

As he said so eloquently, the history of lighting is a people story.
