VFW Aux. sets July 5 event; potluck contest announced
The VFW Auxiliary is sponsoring a Community Potluck to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, and will join groups across America the weekend of the Independence Day holiday in bringing communities together to celebrate.
The Ellis Community Potluck event will be held Sunday, July 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Creekside Park (the swimming pool park) near the new Community shelter area.
The Potluck will include hot dogs, condiments, buns and water, all provided by the Ellis VFW Auxiliary. The community members attending are invited to bring their best and favorite potluck side dishes to add to this festive American potluck tradition!
If you think your side dish is the best, enter it into the Coin Vote contest. Those attending the event can taste the variety of side dishes, and vote on their favorite with pocket change! The dish receiving the most coin votes will win Best 250th Potluck Side Dish!
The VFW Auxiliary is seeking volunteers to help with the event, and provides a great opportunity for students to earn community service hours over the summer. Ellis groups and organizations are encouraged to get involved and be a part of this great event!
In addition to the potluck picnic, the VFW Auxiliary will offer games, face painting, and other activities. They are looking for volunteers to run these games and booths throughout the event. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Cecilia Everson by text at 720-471-4399.
Those attending the event are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. All proceeds from the side dish coin votes go toward Ellis VFW Post 9139 projects. The community is encouraged to attend this special 250th Birthday Celebration for America!
