Please keep Terry's husband, children and grandchild in your thoughts and prayers. She was an incredible human being who lit up a room. She will be greatly missed!!!

Service to be held at the Unitarian Universalist church in Annapolis on Saturday, January 24th, at 10am. All who loved her are welcome!

With the heaviest of hearts, I am sharing the devastating news of the loss of our Program Director, Terry Conroy.

Terry passed peacefully on January 7, 2026, after a long and courageous journey with cancer. After three bouts of cancer and two stem cell transplants, she fought with a strength that is hard to put into words. She was not alone. She was surrounded by love, her hand held, as God called her home.

Terry was a beautiful part of the Respite Retreats family and a huge part of the very foundation of who we are. She served from the depth of her soul. She showed up with heart, compassion, and love for those we support. Her smile lit up a room, and her presence instantly made people feel safe, seen, and cared for. She believed deeply in the power of respite, connection, and simply being present and you felt that the moment you were with her.

She poured herself into this work with intention and love, giving so much of herself to others even while facing her own battles. Terry’s spirit, kindness, and dedication touched every life she encountered. We are better because of her. Our community is stronger because of her. Her love, leadership, and heart will forever be a part of Respite Retreats.

As we grieve this tremendous loss, we hold Terry’s family and loved ones close, especially her husband Mike, their children Kelly and Rebecca, and granddaughter Wren. We will honor Terry by continuing this mission with the same heart and love she brought every single day.

Rest gently, Terry. Your light, your smile, and your love will live on through all of us.

Happy New Year! Thank you to our Angels, donors, and supporters for making 2025 a meaningful year for our Respite Retreats Abby's Carts of Courage Warriors. Because of your generosity, 23 wagons were delivered to bring hope, smiles, and comfort. We are deeply grateful for your continued support of our mission. As Abby would say, "You are the best!"

Abby is the heartfelt inspiration behind Abby’s Carts of Courage, a Respite Retreats program that brings comfort to children fighting cancer. Diagnosed with a rare brain tumor just after her fourth birthday, Abby found strength in the simple comfort of a wagon that carried her essentials and gave her a safe place to rest during long hospital days. Wanting other children to feel that same support, she and her family launched Abby’s Carts of Courage to gift wagons filled with blankets, toys, nightlights and other comforting items to pediatric cancer warriors across Maryland. Each wagon helps children maneuver through their cancer journey with more ease and joy.

Tonight, our very own Katie Renehan, Founder and Program Direcor of Respite Retreats Abby's Carts of Courage and Abby’s incredible mom, was honored with the T. Rowe Price Community Quarterback Award. 💜🏆

Katie pours her heart and soul into making sure pediatric cancer patients receive a wagon filled with comfort items to help them maneuver through their cancer journey — a true lifeline of love, support, and practicality when families need it most.

What makes this program even more special is that Abby continues to be an active participant in serving the program, helping spread comfort, courage, and joy to kids walking the same path she once did.

What began as one mom’s mission to honor her courageous daughter has grown into a powerful movement of compassion, comfort, and hope for children navigating the hardest journey.

We are beyond proud of Katie, inspired by her, and grateful every single day for the magic she and Abby bring to our Respite Retreats family. ✨

"This wagon has helped us so much over the past year and a half. It's hard to put into words just how often it was along for the ride for our warrior Gordie and his new baby brother, Roscoe. From taking him for rides when he was 2 days old to pulling him now at 15 months. From our first family photo as a family of 4, when we checked out after his double stem cell transplant and ringing the bell after radiation. It continues to come along for scans every 3 months.
