Thanks to a Public Improvements grant through the Lancaster County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, we were able to upgrade the restrooms in our Community Cupboard of Elizabethtown from the old school cafeteria restrooms to fully ADA compliant restrooms! We also added a covered entryway into the Cupboard to keep clients out of the elements when they come to shop. We are so grateful for the Community Development Block Grant funds that enabled us to make these upgrades to provide better service to our neighbors!

At United Churches Elizabethtown Area, we always say that our volunteers are the heart of what we do. We honestly could not serve our community the way we do with our Community Cupboard of Elizabethtown, Community Closet, Community Meals on Wheels and the Community Place on Washington campus without our MANY dedicated volunteers!

We are also extremely grateful for our special occasion volunteers and the collaborations we have with local groups. This week, through the Elizabethtown College "Into the Streets" program, we had several students who gave of their time to remove, clean and store our building window air conditioners and helped with the Community Closet. THANK YOU for your time and service to our community!

Yesterday, volunteers from the Community Cupboard of Elizabethtown and the United Churches Elizabethtown Area board of directors gathered to celebrate the retirement of Steve, the Community Cupboard Director and Minnie, the Community Cupboard Client Coordinator. Both have served our Cupboard for 5 years. Both will be greatly missed!

Volunteers shared their appreciation for Steve and Minnie and their love for our Elizabethtown neighbors in need. They expressed the joy they felt helping neighbors select the food they need to feed their families. All of the programs of United Churches Elizabethtown Area depend on volunteers and we are so grateful for them!

Best wishes Steve and Minnie and thank you so much for your service!! ❤💙🎉

The Community Meals on Wheels program run by United Churches Elizabethtown Area is a wonderful program for those who are unable to cook their own meals, due to a medical condition or life circumstance. Volunteer drivers deliver a hot and cold meal each weekday. It's another important way the United Churches Elizabethtown Area helps to meet the needs of those in our community! We are so thankful for our volunteers! Elizabethtown College always encourages its students to volunteer.

A note from the Clothing Closet Director, Connie Trynovich:
"Coach Lamar Fahenstock (not in photo) organizes community service projects to keep the team working together. The Clothing Barn is their favorite. This changeover from Summer to Winter items took place the evening of September 29, 2026. What would have taken our volunteers a few weeks took the team 45 minutes. I am so very grateful for their commitment to serving us."
