Dancer update ❤️🩹
Dancer is one of our sanctuary horses who is now in his mid-twenties. He enjoyed his late teens teaching many students how to trust in the saddle. Now he spends his time on the ground bonding with anyone who falls in love with him. 🐴
Last night Dancer attended the vet to discuss his recent decline in health. Dancer is elder and does eat a lot as he is a large thoroughbred. He has been on the same feed routine comfortably for years, so when he started losing weight rapidly, we knew he needed seen. Our veterinarian drew blood work, looked him over, and took a f***l. Listening to our signs and reading the blood work showed us a couple of answers. 🐎
Dancer has a sensitive stomach causing ulcers, he also struggles from serious allergies in the summer, and may need a grain with larger fat content to maintain himself. His biggest problem is his anhidrosis which is his inability to sweat in the summer. His white blood cell count was off and a couple of other readings barely off. So he has been prescribed ulcer medication, antibiotics, and a treatment plan for getting his health back on track. 💕
What have we been doing and what will we do:
Dancer comes in to our covered temporary stalls every day during the heat.
He receives Complete Equine Performance Daily Lung and Pure Sweat to try and help his condition.
Per our vet we will up his grain intake to 2 scoops of Tribute Kalm Ultra 2x a day.
He will be on ulcer treatment for the next month.
Dancer will also start receiving 2 flakes of alfalfa hay twice daily. 🙏
How can you help?
Our largest expense will be alfalfa weekly which is $23 for a small bale and $32 for a large bale. We also have to supply his CEP supplements that cost around $200 for both of them (he will need more late July). Lastly, we have to cover his medical bill from yesterday… costing us $515.
