A Casas por Cristo build is about more than building a home—it can be a life-changing experience. Whether you're serving a family, strengthening relationships, or discovering a passion for missions, God often works in ways we never expect.

Amiee McElveen experienced this firsthand during a build in Guatemala:

"God opened the door for my husband and me to join this trip just 10 days before it began. Both of our children have served with Casas, and those experiences helped ignite our daughter's passion for missions. This trip gave me a deeper understanding of her heart for missions and her love for the people of Guatemala. Seeing the work completed and building relationships with the community opened my eyes in ways I never expected."

Sometimes all it takes is saying "yes." What begins as an opportunity to support a friend or family member can become a moment that transforms your own heart. Through serving alongside local communities, witnessing God's faithfulness, and sharing His love, you'll often discover that He is working in your life just as much as the lives of those you're serving.

You never know how God might use one week to deepen your faith, strengthen your relationships, and reveal His purpose for your life. When He opens the door, take that step of faith.

When teams serve with Casas por Cristo, the heart of every trip is partnering with local churches and coming alongside families to share the love of Jesus. That's the mission behind everything we do.

One part of the experience that teams consistently love is our meal plan. After long days of serving, sharing a meal provides time to rest, reconnect, and prepare for another day of ministry. It's more than food—it's an opportunity to build community.

Across every Casas location, meals are prepared by local cooks, creating jobs and investing directly into the communities we serve. Every cook is trained in proper food safety practices, and each meal is prepared with care. It's one more way we live out our multi-mission mindset: serving teams while empowering local families.

Every country offers something unique! Teams enjoy homemade favorites in Mexico, fresh fruit and traditional breakfasts in Guatemala, Dominican classics paired with local coffee, and flavorful Honduran meals featuring fresh fruit, plantains, and tortillas. And yes—Taco Tuesday and Spaghetti Night are team favorites in several locations!

Great meals don't just fuel the work—they create fellowship opportunities, strengthen local communities, and remind us that every part of a build is an opportunity to serve and be served with Christ-like love.

Life is full of moments that leave us feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or afraid. Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) says, "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Prayer doesn't just change our circumstances—it changes our hearts. When we bring our worries, fears, and burdens before God, we're reminded that we were never meant to carry them alone. Prayer is an act of trust, placing what we cannot control into the hands of the One who holds everything together.

Worried about the language barrier on a Casas por Cristo build? You may not speak Spanish, but you'll quickly discover that God's love speaks louder than words.

Ryan Hochgrebe experienced this during a build in Acuña, México. As he served alongside local families and pastors, he discovered that some of the deepest connections are built through faith, service, and fellowship.

"Our trip to Acuña was far more than simply traveling to serve people in need. It was an opportunity to love and be loved by people who taught us about the greater work of God's Kingdom. Although language barriers existed, the love of our Lord crossed every boundary, and we experienced such beautiful fellowship throughout the week."

We’re excited to share another staff update, this time from our Juárez, México location! Jordan first served with Casas por Cristo as a Creative Resident in 2025, while Gabe joined the ministry as an intern. As they served together, they began to see how God was leading them along the same path. Through prayer and seeking His will, they both found peace about beginning a new chapter together. This past February, they were married and have loved serving the Lord side by side ever since. Here’s an update from Jordan and Gabe: "We recently got married, and it has been such a beautiful and fruitful season. Jordan recently completed her Creative Residency with Casas por Cristo and continues serving alongside the ministry while also partnering in our own ministry. We're currently launching a Christian outdoor hat brand called 516 Outdoors Co., inspired by Luke 5:16, to help support our ministry. We also adopted our sweet dog, Flaca, a few months ago! One of our greatest joys is serving the incredible teams that come to build with Casas por Cristo. The last few builds have been amazing, and in just the past month, our teams have had the privilege of praying with more than 30 people as they placed their faith in Jesus. We praise God for the lives He continues to change!" Luke 5:16 reminds us that "Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer." In the middle of a busy season of ministry, Jordan and Gabe are committed to following Christ's example by keeping Him at the center of their marriage, relationships, and ministry. Please continue praying for them as they serve in Juárez. Pray that God would give them wisdom, strength, and continued opportunities to share the hope of Christ. Thank you for partnering with us in supporting this wonderful couple as they faithfully serve wherever God leads.
