The Borderland Mountain Bike Association was awarded the "Texans for State Parks Outstanding Partners Group Award - Region 1" for 2025 at the annual conference in March. Our Chair (President), Joe Garibay, took the time to travel across Texas to receive the award.

It is a great honor that the BMBA received this award, we actually didn't even know we were in the running for an award. Little things like this make our organization feel proud that the work that we and all of our volunteers do for the Franklin Mountains State Park stand out and make a difference.

If you are interested in learning more about the BMBA or just wish to volunteer let us know, follow our social media accounts for the latest volunteer opportunities, every little bit helps in maintaining our amazing mountains.

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and board members that made this possible.

See you in the morning!!! Going to be a blast!!!!

Borderland Mountain Bike Association with the amazing help of various volunteers from the biking, hiking and running community came together on Saturday to clean up Old Tin Mine Road. It had been lined with large boulders which was creating a dangerous situation for COMAR (local search and rescue) and the park personnel to be able to navigate the old jeep road for maintenance and rescue operations. It was also making what should have been a wider trail where trail users should be able to pass safety, those big rocks were causing users to have to step over large rocks to pass safety.
It took a team to move a mountain, but the trail is back to where it should be.
Thanks to all the volunteers and COMSAR

See you on the next trail-work day!!!

Tin Mine Trail Day

Rock Removal Upper Section of the Trail
Saturday May 30th the Borderland Mountain Bike Association (BMBA) is hosting a trial work day at the Chuck Heinrich trailhead. The BMBA is hosting this trail day to support the Franklin Mountain State Park and with the permission of the park.

Date: Saturday May 30th, 2026
Location: Chuck Heinrich trailhead
Time: 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The focus of this maintenance will be to remove large rocks from the trail. It is believed that an individual placed the rocks on the trail to impede motorized vehicles from accessing the trail. While the intent was noble the rocks are creating a safety hazard. The State Park and the Combined Search and Rescue (COMSAR) have encountered issues going up the mountain due to these rocks. In addition the rocks are a hazard to mountain bikers riding this section.

This will be a strenuous trail day requiring a great deal of manual labor hauling the rocks down hill off the trail. The BMBA will provide heavy duty wagons and a rock hauling net to transport the rocks downhill. The rocks will have to be lifted into the wagons for transport, rolled downhill, and then dumped off trail.

Groups will hike or ride to the sites starting at 7:00 a.m. and stop work at 10:15 a.m. At 10:15 a.m. groups are to gather their equipment and begin hiking back to the trailhead so that no-one is out on trail past 11:00 a.m.

The BMBA will provide drinks and snacks at the site and at the trailhead for all participants. If you would like to participate please wear appropriate clothing gloves, hat, sturdy shoes, and sun protection and RSVP at: clickable link in comments

How can we ALL help? One piece of trash at a time.

Pack out what you pack in

See some trash, pack it out

Volunteer!! Lots of opportunities out there for volunteers through multiple organizations. Or stop by the park headquarters, they can help guide you to becoming an official park volunteer

And of course grab your daily use pass or get a yearly star park pass (but make sure you register your entry online each time you enter the park. This will help with park visitor counts for future funding)

The El Paso park’s staff welcome its growth, but express concerns about littering that makes daily cleanup a time-consuming and labor-intensive task for its small crew.

The mountains give us miles and miles of adventure, challenge, and peace.

They give us sunrise rides, dusty smiles, tired legs, and unforgettable memories.

But with that gift comes responsibility.
It’s on us to protect these trails.
To respect the land.
To ride with care.
To give back when we can.
So future generations get the same chance to fall in love with these mountains the way we did.

Ride smart. Ride kind. Ride forward.
