Free support for MN families who experience the death of a baby during pregnancy or infancy.

The Minnesota Center for Stillbirth and Infant Death is funded in part by grants from the Minnesota Department of Health, CentraCare Health Foundation and numerous individual donors. All services provided by the Minnesota Center for Stillbirth and Infant Death are free to bereaved families. The Minnesota Center for Stillbirth and Infant Death will contact each family and offer the services of our Family Support Coordinators. These individuals are health professionals who have expertise in caring for families after the death of a baby. They can listen, provide information, ensure families have access to appropriate resources, and minimize barriers to quality bereavement care. Family Support Coordinators can continue to be a contact person for the entire family for the months to come. Each family situation will be assessed to determine which resources could be helpful or are desired. Examples include information, birth planning, books/blogs/podcasts/websites, counseling/therapy, support groups, support line, bereavement photography, spiritual or cultural support, funeral homes, financial assistance, and peer support. We also offer live, online support groups for parents after a stillbirth or neonatal death, parents after infant death or SUID/SIDS, fathers, and grandparents. All groups are facilitated by trained professionals who have experience with these tragic deaths.

Halloween can be hard when your baby is no longer here.

You may be thinking about the costume you would have picked out. The Halloween parties you would have attended. The little hand you would have held while trick-or-treating. The memories you thought you would be making this year.

There can be so many moments you imagined that never got the chance to happen. And that grief is real.

So if tonight feels too hard, please give yourself permission to protect your heart.

You can leave a white pumpkin on your porch as a subtle reminder that someone should be here who isn’t. You don’t have to answer the door. You can leave the lights off. You can go somewhere else for the evening. You can skip the party. You can stay home. You can make a quiet space to remember your baby. Or you can do something completely different that helps you get through the night.

There is no right way to spend Halloween after baby loss.

To every parent missing their baby tonight, please know that we are thinking of you and your baby. Today and always. 🤍

October 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.
While we remember our babies throughout the month of October, today holds a special place in our hearts. At 7 PM in your time zone, families across the globe will join together for the International Wave of Light, a beautiful tribute to honor every baby gone too soon.
Light a candle from 7 to 8 PM wherever you are and be part of the 24-hour wave that wraps the world in remembrance. Invite your family and friends to join you in showing their love and support.
