This morning, we gathered to honor a true public servant — Correctional Officer Richard Moran — as he closes the chapter on a remarkable career spanning more than 30 years with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office.

In a ceremony held at the Public Safety Building, I had the privilege of standing alongside Officer Moran’s family, friends, co-workers, and local officials to recognize his outstanding dedication and commitment to the citizens of Rensselaer County.

For over three decades, “Ricky” has served with professionalism, integrity, and heart — setting an example for everyone around him. His loyalty and sense of humor have made a lasting impact on this agency, and while we’ll miss him, we’re grateful for the legacy he leaves behind.

Congratulations, Officer Moran, on your retirement!

EAST GREENBUSH COUNCILMEMBERS JIM MCHUGH AND ED NESTLER OPPOSE USE OF EMINENT DOMAIN AGAINST EAST GREENBUSH COMMUNITY LIBRARY, WITH CANDIDATE MICKEY JENKINS ALSO OPPOSED TO EMINENT DOMAIN USE

East Greenbush Councilmembers Jim McHugh and Ed Nestler said they oppose the use of eminent domain against the East Greenbush Community Library, with Town Board candidate Mickey Jenkins saying she also supports the stance against eminent domain use.
The use of eminent domain against the library was proposed by Supervisor Jack Conway at a library meeting earlier this month. Conway is interested in using a piece of library property as a home for a future town police station.
McHugh, Nestler and Jenkins each said they have received hundreds of calls and messages from residents and supporters of the library opposing the move.
“We share the sentiments of residents who do not want to see eminent domain used to force the library to give up a portion of their property to the town. This is not the right way to site a project in our town,” said McHugh.
McHugh, Nestler and Jenkins said any transaction involving library property should be one voluntarily undertaken and decided independently by the library and the library Board of Directors.
“No eminent domain powers should be used by the town against the East Greenbush Community Library. Any transaction the library enters should be one decided willingly by the library and not forced on an institution that has served our residents for generations,” said Nestler.
McHugh, Nestler and Jenkins said use of eminent domain would potentially create a lengthy and protracted legal process. McHugh, Nestler and Jenkins said they support establishing a new and modern police station and further said they believe there is strong community support for a new station. The three said they want a process that is open and transparent.
“This is a decision that belongs to the library and not settled with threat of eminent domain or legal action. No force should be used against the library and all three of us oppose the use of eminent domain against the library,” said Jenkins.
