What should homeowners know about routine roof maintenance?!

We asked Albert with Phoenix Roofing Systems to share his expert perspective!

In our “Ask An Expert” series, we’re highlighting the knowledge and experience within our Chamber membership - connecting our community with local professionals and practical insight from the industries they know best.

For our first feature, Albert shares his expertise and a few things homeowners should keep in mind when it comes to protecting one of their biggest investments: their home!

Expertise lives right here in our community - hear what Albert recommends!

There’s a lot to love about where we live and even more to learn about the places that surround us. 🥾

Our North Georgia mountains are home to a piece of one of the most iconic trails in the country, and Appalachian Trail Day is an opportunity for our community to get to know it a little better!

Hosted at Brasstown Bald by FIND Outdoors and the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club, this family-friendly day will bring people together for hands-on activities, stories of the Appalachian Trail’s history, a look at how the trail is cared for today, and plenty of opportunities to learn about the natural world around us.

Whether you’re an experienced hiker or simply someone who loves calling North Georgia home, this is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors, learn something new, and discover how we can all play a part in caring for the places that make our region so special.

Grab the family and make a day of it!

What happens when you put a room full of women around the same table?

Stories are shared.
Connections are made.
Wisdom gets passed along.
And somehow, everyone’s cup leaves a little fuller!

That was the heart behind this year’s Women in Business Breakfast.

With “What’s in Your Cup?” as our theme, we spent the morning thinking about more than what we achieve professionally. We talked about what we carry with us & what spills over into our businesses, our families, our leadership and our community when life inevitably bumps into us.

There was laughter. There were introductions between women who may not have known each other before Friday. There were stories from women in different industries & different stages of their journeys. And there were plenty of moments that reminded us why creating space for connection matters.

Because the best part of a full cup...? Having enough to pour into someone else.

To our speakers, panelists, sponsors and every person who pulled up a chair - thank you for being part of a morning that filled ours. 💛

That's a wrap on Leadership Gilmer's August Session!

There’s a lot happening behind the scenes to keep Gilmer County connected, powered, and moving forward - and our August Leadership Gilmer session gave participants an inside look at some of the people, systems, and organizations making it all possible!

Throughout the day, the class explored the infrastructure and essential services that support our community with visits and conversations at Carters Dam, ETC, Georgia Power, Amicalola EMC, and the Ellijay-Gilmer Water & Sewer Authority.

From learning the history and operations of Carters Dam to touring ETC’s downtown office with Nathan Collier and Jamie Cantrell, each stop offered a closer look at the expertise and coordination required to serve a growing community.

The class also heard from Penelope Marshall and Andy Bradshaw with Amicalola EMC and Gary McVey and Josh Reid with the Ellijay-Gilmer Water & Sewer Authority, gaining valuable insight into the work happening every day to provide the services we often depend on without a second thought.

We were also grateful to spend time with The Craddock Center and Kirk Cameron, learning more about their work and impact in our community.

A special thank you to The Craddock Center for sponsoring lunch and Main Street Catering for providing a wonderful meal!

Leadership Gilmer is about seeing our community from a new perspective: meeting the people behind the work, understanding how Gilmer County operates, and building more informed, connected community leaders.

Thank you to every organization and speaker who opened their doors and shared their time, knowledge, and expertise with this year’s class!
