Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Trash the Trash Day!

Pack 154 families were excited to join Scouting America Troop 154, Durham, NH for this amazing community service event, helping clean up roadsides and public areas throughout town. Our Cub Scouts had a great time giving back to the community while showing that even the youngest Scouts can make a big difference.

A little rain wasn’t going to stop Cub Scouts from helping take care of the outdoors they love to explore!

One of our Cub Scout families tackled one of the cleanup routes together, with even their 3-year-old daughter helping out along the way!

The group also recovered one of the more unusual finds of the day - a shopping cart believed to be over 15 years old, dating back to before Hannaford opened in its current location.

A special thank you goes to Nick, a graduating UNH student, for volunteering alongside our Scouts and helping cover miles of cleanup routes throughout the day. We truly appreciate you joining us!

We also want to thank Troop 154 for hosting and organizing this outstanding event. The Scouts and leaders put together a fantastic day of service, teamwork, and community pride.

From Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA, it was incredible to see everyone working together to leave our community cleaner than we found it.

Every great adventure comes with obstacles.

A balance log in the woods might seem small, but to a Cub Scout it can feel like a real challenge at first. Wobbly steps. Fear of falling. Wanting to quit halfway across.

But then something amazing happens: They keep going.

That’s how confidence is built.
That’s how resilience grows.
That’s how young people learn they’re capable of more than they thought possible.

In Cub Scouts, adversity isn’t something to avoid - it’s part of the adventure. Whether it’s trying a new skill, speaking up in front of others, hiking a difficult trail, or simply believing in themselves, every challenge helps them grow stronger.

And they never walk that path alone. Families, leaders, and fellow Scouts are there cheering them on every step of the way. ❤️

🎉 Scouting America Troop 154, Durham, NH Celebrates an Unsung Hero! 🎉

We’re proud to share some exciting news from Scouting America New Hampshire's Abnaki District:

Our very own Kevin “Good” Shepard, who serves as both Scoutmaster of Troop 154 and Cubmaster of Pack 154, has been recognized with the

🏅 District Unit Commissioner’s Unsung Hero Award

This award honors adult leaders who go above and beyond to support their unit - and this couldn’t be more well-deserved.

Good’s approach to Scouting reflects what the program is truly about: supporting every Scout’s individual journey. Whether a youth is striving for Eagle, building confidence, forming lasting friendships, or simply discovering who they are, his leadership ensures they are encouraged, supported, and given the opportunity to grow.

Through his dedication, he helps lead a program where all are welcome, all are supported, and every path has value.

👏 Please join us in congratulating Mr. Shepard and thanking him for the time, care, and energy he pours into our Scouts and families!

Our Pack, in its current membership, has done the first 2! A couple of years ago, our older Cubs led us on a hike while learning to use a map and compass with GPS. They took us the wrong way for about a ½ mile (as leaders, we knew but let them figure it out). It was a great learning experience!

May the Fourth be with you!

From Pinewood Tracks to World-Changing Paths

What do astronauts, presidents, civil rights leaders, and even Hollywood stars have in common?
They all started somewhere… and for many, that place was Scouting.

🚀 Neil Armstrong
Before he took humanity’s first steps on the moon, he was a young Scout in Ohio - learning curiosity, courage, and perseverance.

🏛️ Gerald Ford
The only U.S. President to earn Eagle Scout… but his journey started as a Cub Scout, just like many kids today.

✊ Martin Luther King Jr.
A young Scout who grew into a voice that changed a nation - proof that leadership starts early.

🇺🇸 Bill Clinton & George W. Bush
Two presidents. Two different paths. One shared beginning in Cub Scouts.

🛰️ Jim Lovell
Commander of Apollo 13, who turned a near disaster into one of NASA’s greatest success stories - built on resilience and teamwork.

🎬 Bruce Willis
From Scout meetings to the big screen - confidence and creativity start young.

🔥 Vera Barclay
A pioneer who helped shape the early Scouting program, specifically the Wolf Cubs, as one of the first women in leadership.

Here’s the truth:
None of these people started out as legends.
They started as kids - learning, exploring, failing, trying again… just like Cub Scouts today.

In Cub Scouts, kids don’t just pass time -
they build confidence, character, and the kind of mindset that can change the world.

And it’s not just for kids - families grow together, side-by-side, every step of the adventure.

Your child’s story is just beginning.
Where could it lead?

👉 Come see what Scouting is all about.
No experience needed—just a willingness to try something new.

“Lion’s Roar teaches our youngest Scouts how to recognize safe and unsafe situations and develop personal boundaries,” says Tara Noem, parent and Tiger Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 367. “It also teaches what to do if those boundaries are crossed - yell, run away and tell a trusted adult.”

Youth safety is paramount - whether it’s at a activity or anywhere outside of . Safeguarding youth is a shared responsibility - supported by parents, reinforced by leaders and taught in age‑appropriate ways to youth, themselves.

Recently, a news segment was released about a Cub Scout's heroic actions in Ohio (the quote at the beginning of this post is from that piece). We are proud of the Cub Scout featured in this video. In a frightening situation, she used the personal‑safety skills she had been taught in and immediately alerted her mom. You can watch full news segment online: https://ow.ly/Gkfp50YTEJ5.

“Dangerous situations involving strangers are rare, but they do occur and often end terribly," says Glen Pounder, EVP and Chief Safeguarding Officer of Scouting America. "Remaining vigilant in all circumstances - and empowering children early with simple, age‑appropriate safety skills - is a critical part of prevention."
