One surgeon changed the way 2026 Fore Hope Scholarship winner Jacob Garland saw medicine—and his future.

Throughout years of orthopedic treatment, Jacob’s surgeon didn’t just care for him. He listened to him, involved him in decisions, and made him feel like his voice mattered.

That experience inspired Jacob’s goal:
Become a pediatric orthopedic surgeon.

Jacob hopes to one day provide children facing CDH and other orthopedic conditions with the same compassion, respect, and confidence that his surgeon gave him.

This fall, Jacob begins the next step of that journey at Western Michigan University, bringing with him a 3.9 GPA, an Associate Degree in Science, extensive clinical experience—and a firsthand understanding of the kind of surgeon he wants to become.

Leah will attend East Tennessee State University, where she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with the goal of becoming a pediatric nurse.

Introducing 2026 Fore Hope Scholarship winner - Mr. Par Rich - a who’s headed to Mississippi State University this Fall to pursue a degree from their prestigious PGA Golf Management Program. An avid golfer himself we hope to have him join us in ATL for our tourney sometime soon, but in the meantime...HAIL STATE! Congrats Par, dream big and go low!

This research update feels different, but after 5 years of supporting ‘s CDH genetic research, we are thrilled to share their findings with you which were recently published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics! Brief summary below, but the entire paper can be downloaded at the link in our bio!

A newly published study analyzing over 500 patients found that genetic factors may play a role in up to 61% of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) cases—including many previously considered “isolated.” This research highlights the complexity of CDH and the importance of continued investment in genetic discovery and innovation.

At the Fore Hadley Foundation, this is exactly why we fund research—to better understand CDH, improve outcomes, and ultimately bring hope to families facing it every day.

We’re so incredibly encouraged by the progress—and are doubling down our investment to further move the needle!!

🚨🚨 MASSIVE News in the World of Genetic CDH Research via our friends Children's Hospital of Philadelphia 🚨🚨

We're so excited to share this research paper with our community, over 5 years ago Fore Hadley Foundation started funding this incredible research at CHOP, and in March 2026, they published the paper found in the link below in the American Journal of Medical Genetics.
