Duncannon Appalachian Trail Community

Duncannon Appalachian Trail Community As an official Appalachian Trail Community, the DATC helps manage the A.T. Our Leadership Committee meets monthly at the Duncannon Borough Office.

around Duncannon, and works to promote, protect, and preserve our outdoor recreational resources for future generations. In the coming years, the Duncannon Appalachian Trail Community Advisory Committee hopes that our slogan “Promoting, Protecting and Preserving Our Outdoor Recreational Resources for Future Generations” will carry over into all changes being considered for the Duncannon Borough, i

ncluding improved river access and beautification of the town. The Community plans to support and implement projects and programming that enhance tourism opportunities for Duncannon as an outdoor recreation destination and encourage everyone to get outside, enjoy nature and recognize the connection between the health and abundance of the region’s natural assets and the vitality of its communities. We support the efforts of the Trail Clubs maintaining the A.T. in the Greater Duncannon Area including MCM (Mountain Club of Maryland), SATC (Susquehanna Appalachian Trail Club), CVATC (Cumberland Valley Appalachian Trail Club), and YHC (York Hiking Club).

Hey PECO, we're looking for a local business in the Duncannon area (would love to keep it in Perry County) that can give us a quote for 2 things:

1) Seal-coat a standard size outdoor asphalt basketball court, and

2) Re-paint lines on a standard size outdoor basketball court

If you or someone you know does that type of work, shoot us a message with which thing you do and contact details!

We're excited to share more about what we're working on in the near future 😁

Hey Duncannon, if you haven't been to Noye Park in awhile (or even if you have), this week would be a really, really great time to check it out!

This past weekend 30+ incredible volunteers donated their time, energy, muscles, and about 30 gallons of sweat to get more work done in Noye Park than I thought possible in a day. I can't say thank you enough to the incredible crew that showed up and pulled together to do a GREAT thing for Duncannon.

Many of the volunteers didn't live in Duncannon. Most had never even been to Noye Park. But that didn't stop them from treating it like their own home and taking the care to make it shine for all of town to enjoy. Its people like these doing things like this that give me hope for a brighter future. Thanks a million times over to this crew that made the Noye Park Cleanup Crew workday such a huge success.

And just as important as the volunteers were the local businesses that supported those volunteers, a huge hometown shout out goes to the Doyle Hotel, Momma Pat's A Little Taste of Philly Grille, 3 Pups Bakery, Sorrento Pizza, Karns Foods and Lindgren Craft Brewery for providing the all local meals and drinks for the crew (and the Carrie's for organizing and holding down the fort all day).

Stats on the day:

- Over 300 volunteer hours logged
- 20+ truckloads of brush removed
- ~1 ton of logs removed
- 1/4 mile of trail restored and edged
- 10+ different types of invasive species removed
- 2000 shrub stumps hand snipped off
- 1 exhausted and incredibly happy DATC President

Amazing prep work today for the Noye Park Cleanup Crew - Volunteer Workday!

I can’t thank The Nature Conservancy enough for leading the day and donating the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources PA Ourdoor Corp Crew to help with the work. What a group of all stars.

This crew of 9 spent the day hacking, cutting, pulling, and stacking piles of invasive plants and dead brush out of the park, setting us up for success for the work day on Saturday (July 11th). With this work done, the volunteer day can now focus on cleanup and trail work, and we’ll be able to leave Noye Park looking better than ever.

We still need more volunteers for Saturday!! Check the event above and the signup link in the comments below, and come hang out with us for the day! Volunteers will have an amazing (and completely locally prepped) lunch, a custom crew t-shirt, and a small gift as a thank you for spending your Saturday helping make Duncannon a better place.
