Money in Your Pocket (MIYP) is a coalition of community partners, led by United Way of the Capital Region, that provides free income tax assistance to low- and moderate-income working families in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties in Pennsylvania. The focus is to secure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) for qualifying families. The program is administered nationall

the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and is also known as Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). MIYP utilizes the services of trained volunteers to assist people in electronically filing their returns. Service is provided to those taxpayers in the Capital Region who most need assistance and cannot afford the services of paid preparers. MIYP volunteer tax preparers are trained and certified to prepare basic federal and state income tax returns for individuals using TaxSlayer software. All volunteers are required to adhere to IRS and program standards of conduct, which include safeguarding the privacy and confidentiality of taxpayer information, and the quality and accuracy of returns.
