Say “Akwaaba!” to Chidima, a physician assistant, and Kayla, a pharmacist, traveling 5,000 miles from New Jersey, USA! We’re excited to feature these two in our Volunteer Spotlight Series.

During our “We Care” Medical Mission 2026, Chidima and Kayla contributed to community-based health initiatives by recording vitals, conducting dental screenings, distributing medication, and identifying local pharmacies. They also helped refer patients to district-level health facilities, reinforcing continuity of care among those we served.

Thank you, Chidima and Kayla, for dedicating your time to engage with communities across the region. It was a pleasure seeing the impact this experience had on you, while you helped make an impact on others! Stay tuned for more information on how to become an AGCC Medical Mission Volunteer.

Did you know that Dzorwulu Special School is one of three institutions in the Greater Accra Region that provide specialized education and support for students with disabilities? Amazing Grace Children’s Charity surprised staff and students by spending the day focusing on adolescents’ health and well-being during Day 2 of the “We Care” Medical Mission 2026.

It was a privilege to be in an environment full of energy and laughter, where we had the opportunity to give back to the next generation of leaders. We extend our appreciation to Dzorwulu Special School for welcoming us and making the day a meaningful step toward health equity.

Here’s a recap of the day with Abigail, a service personnel, as she shares her favorite things that make Dzorwulu Special School unique and how they are reflected in the school’s motto: “Love, Care, and Dedication.”

Meet Hazel! One of our dedicated volunteers who joined us for the “We Care” Medical Mission 2026. During the mission, she played a vital role by recording patients’ heights and weights. This was Hazel’s first year serving with our medical mission, and it quickly became an experience she won’t forget.

What stood out to Hazel most was the power of community. From the patients to fellow AGCC volunteers, she witnessed kindness, gratitude, and people coming together to serve. Hazel shared how, “Everyone was so appreciative of what they were receiving. Even with everything going on in the world, it’s a beautiful thing that people are willing to give their time.”

One of Hazel’s favorite moments was visiting Accra Girls Senior High School, where she witnessed a community of young women who genuinely supported and encouraged one another. The experience left her inspired by the school’s commitment to youth empowerment.

For anyone considering joining a future medical mission, Hazel has a simple message: “Meeting the people of Ghana... they’re so sweet and always ready to give you a smile. I loved this experience.” She also encourages others to step outside their comfort zones, embrace different cultures, and remain open-minded. New experiences have the power to reshape our perspectives beyond what is often portrayed.

We are excited to launch our Volunteer Spotlight Series from our 11th annual medical mission. Stay tuned as we continue sharing the inspiring stories of the volunteers who helped make this mission possible.

Every day, and especially today, June 16–AGCC proudly celebrates the International Day of the African Child. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience, creativity, and potential of African children. Our children are not only the future of our communities; they are active contributors to the world we are building today. They deserve opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive in environments where their health, safety, education, and well-being are prioritized.

The International Day of the African Child is a reflection of the continued work needed to remove barriers that prevent children from accessing essential basic needs. AGCC remains committed to advocating for children’s health by addressing the social determinants that shape their everyday experiences.

Through our partnerships and community initiatives, we continue creating spaces where children feel supported, empowered, and recognized. We are proud to highlight past collaborations, including our partnership with Zenu Polyclinic for World Menstrual Hygiene Day, where we donated menstrual products and facilitated conversations around reducing stigma, expanding access to menstrual resources in a school-based environment, and promoting menstrual health education beyond the classroom.

Through “Minds Matter,” our youth mental health initiative, we helped reshape conversations around mental health by highlighting the importance of self-expression, creativity, and healthy coping mechanisms. Through engaging activities and meaningful conversations, we encouraged children to view mental health as an essential part of their overall well-being.

When we invest into children, we help cultivate the next generation of changemakers who will continue advancing health equity. In just one week, AGCC looks forward to continuing this commitment through our “We Care” Medical Mission 2026, serving children and families through health education, screenings, and community support:

📍 June 24, 2026 | Dental Health Screening at Dzorwulu Special Needs School
