Rich Andrews, Board member for the Kiwanis Family House shared a presentation on the program for a recent Duarte Kiwanis meeting. Kiwanis Family House was created in 1984 to fill a gap in the needs of families undergoing medical treatment at UC Davis Medical Center or Shriners Hospital for Children in Northern California. KFH is located on the campus of UC Davis and has 32 rooms and 6 full-service RV spaces on the property. Every room has a private bath, shared kitchen, shared dining and living spaces and beautiful outdoor patios. KFS serves up to 2100 guests/families per year - 85% are used by California families. The balance are used by folks from 30 additional states as well as international patients. All guests are referred by their medical providers and the suggested cost is $60/day, however, no one is turned away. The House is staffed 24 hours/day, 7 days/week because medical emergencies don't follow a time schedule. KFH is currently looking for opportunities to expand into other locations by partnering with local hospitals, foundations and interested parties. Their website is www.kiwanisfamilyhouse.org.
