The Duarte Kiwanis Club serves the community at large and embodies the spirit of Kiwanis International by "Changing the World One Child and One Community at a Time" We meet on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Tuesdays of the month at noon at Westminster Gardens

Reyna Diaz was able to connect with Lisselot Troconis Director of GENTE AYUDANDO GENTE (People Helping People) in El Salvador during a recent Duarte Kiwanis meeting. The Duarte Kiwanis Club and the Duarte Rotary Club have been supporting this organization. Lisselot was able to share a number of successes with the club. For example, 1000 homes have been built within 16 communities in conjunction with the federal government. An interdisciplinary mobile breast cancer screening unit has been created and has served over 20,000 women to date including blood tests and even wigs. A culinary arts program has been created helping provide training as well as job creation connection for graduates. Both Duarte clubs are happy to continue their support.

The City of Duarte hosted the "One Nation Under Gol" World Cup viewing event - and the Duarte Kiwanis Club was present with lots of opportunities for the kids. Reyna Diaz, Nelva Marino, Mercedes Ruiz, Kaye Biggs and Leon Metoyer manned the booth including give-aways, face painting, bracelet making and soccer skills. A great time was had by all - and the US won!!

7 Duarte High Seniors have received scholarships from Duarte Kiwanis Club. President, Mercedes Ruiz joined board members Lois Gaston, Cesar Garcia and Kaye Biggs celebrated all seven recipients at the Senor Breakfast. Congratulations to all!

Alexandra Almaguer-Negret now leads the DART program for the City of Duarte. DART currently has over 160 members focusing on volunteer opportunities in the community. Alex has also coordinated two college trips this year to San Marcos and San Diego State. Participants are also learning skills for financial literacy as well as practical skills for resume building and interview skills. Duarte Kiwanis Club President supported the DART program with a donation from the club.

The Duarte Kiwanis Club attended this year's Senior Banquet for Opportunities for Learning. The club provided a scholarship to Ruth Minas Garcia who will be attending University of Puget Sound in Washington State.
