Dear Nithya Raman and Best Friends Animal Society,
LA is in a state of emergency. Loving, healthy, adoptable dogs are being slaughtered in Los Angeles city shelters you both insist on calling “No Kill.”
Los Angeles city “No Kill” shelters KILL dogs every single day while residents are told they don’t. So, we will work every single day for as long as it takes to educate everyone with the TRUTH and FACTS because people will not do better until they know better.
False narratives, gaslighting and slogans do not save lives. Millions of dollars to hire “experts” in a broken shelter system does not save lives. Ignoring constituents, volunteers and the rescue community does not save lives. Creating a metric system to serve an agenda which brings in millions of dollars and gives false hope does not save lives.
Educating the public, providing real and viable solutions and resources like spay & neuter and aid for people who want to keep their pets but are struggling helps save lives. ENFORCING LAWS, telling people the TRUTH about the horrors animals endure when dumped at a shelter and ensuring they know their animal will suffer for months in unclean kennels without enrichment and will then be taken to a room where they will be scared then killed will help save lives.
People genuinely believe LA City shelters do not kill animals because that is what Best Friends Animal Society has told them and Los Angeles is allowing it because of the optics, money and protections that narrative brings to leaders.
For nearly two decades we have been serving Los Angeles and fighting for the lives of the precious animals in city and county shelters and to see things worsen is infuriating, shameful and disgusting.
LA animal welfare orgs, Best Friends Animal Society and leaders have an obligation to tell the public the truth. The mass murder of animals is preventable, especially in one of the richest & largest cities in America. We’re tired of scrambling to save innocent lives while others sit back and collect fat checks.
You have both ignored our repeated offers to speak face to face on camera. We suggest you rethink that.
