The Carl Levin Center for Oversight and Democracy is launching a new experiential learning program for high school U.S. Dubbed Learning by Hearings (LbH), our educational modules include plans and materials for inquiry lessons and in-class simulations, using noteworthy congressional investigations and hearings to bring to life principles of accountable governance and historic figures central to th

e development of our democracy. These classroom modules are suitable for use in US Civics and US History classrooms and are aligned to the MI High School Content Expectations and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards. These FREE resources are made available through the support of the State of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Education.

πŸ“š Did you know? On this date in 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson addressed the nation about an attack on U.S. warships in the Gulf of Tonkin. Within days, Congress passed a resolution giving him sweeping authority to wage war in Vietnam. But what happens when Congress later questions the information they were given? That's what Senator J. William Fulbright (pictured) set out to find out. His committee hearings became one of the most significant examples of congressional oversight in American history.
