“The View: “The View” was developed from the therapeutic community model used for treatment of substance abuse including dually diagnosed clients. The therapeutic community model concept began in England in the 1940’s. This communal sharing of concern for those around you has positive outcomes. The person begins to see himself/herself reflected in those around them. He/she also starts the journey to self-respect by accepting himself/herself as imperfect but human. What is a “Modified Therapeutic Community Model of Behavior Modification?”
The therapeutic community model focuses on responsibility and creativity, which is encouraged through education, house rules, house tools, consequences and privileges. This design helps child to acquire problem-solving skills. The model develops daily tasks of cooking and household chores. Family meetings or one-on-one discussion promote bonding and respect. The therapeutic community model teaches cooperation, respect and promotes learning experiences, which demonstrate natural and logical consequences. Hence, there is the promoting of self-government. has made a commitment to improve the lives of child that have been displaced, abused or neglected.
