Soaring Eagle Center Day program for adults with intellectual disabilities, HCS and TxHmL Provider The Soaring Eagle Center began as the dream of one mother.

As her daughter approached high school graduation, she realized there were no programs in her community for her daughter and she did not want her sitting at home watching TV all day. A group of parents who had become friends through Special Olympics decided to be proactive in meeting the needs of their adult children. With the help of a special education teacher and a grant writer, they began the

Soaring Eagle Center in 2003. Since 2003, the Soaring Eagle Center has provided athletic opportunities and social events for adults with intellectual disabilities and their families. More than fifty adults and their families have participated in this program. In the fall of 2005, the SEC Day Program was begun. Soaring Eagle Center is the only program of its kind reaching out to those with intellectual disabilities within a thirty mile radius. Soaring Eagle Center’ s long term goals are to expand the staff and facility in order to add more adults to the thriving program and to provide residential opportunities for young adults which are tailored to their individual needs and abilities.

1. Tell us about your background and time with SEC:

I have been a part of the SEC family for four years . I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Special Education and English Literature from the University of Texas at Dallas . I have taught special education with DeSoto and Lancaster ISD for 30 years.

2. What is your favorite part of SEC:

My favorite part of SEC is the close interaction with the clients. I love to make them smile and laugh - in turn they make me smile and laugh . God has put it in my heart to serve them.

3. What are your hopes and prayers for SEC as we move into the future:

My hope and prayer for SEC is to continue to find and explore exciting new things for our clients to do. Also I hope SEC will continue to generate a positive environment where they can make friends and always feel welcomed!
