W**D HARVESTING UPDATE FROM THE TLPF!

After a lot of discussions with the DEC over permits, the Tioughnioga Lake Preservation Foundation (TLPF) has obtained the go-ahead to harvest the curly pond w**d that is beginning to grow in the more shallow coves around the lake. We will be contracting with the Town of Cazenovia which will stage its w**d harvester at the lake on Thursday June 4 and harvesting will begin on Monday, June 8 for 3 days. We like to harvest before it reseeds, and the harvester is not available later in the spring for us to hire. The cost of this harvest will be between $5500 and $7500 depending on the time needed to get the job done.

The w**ds will be trucked by the Cazenovia Highway Department to Barbland Farms on Route 80 in Fabius where they will be used as nutritious animal feed. The Foundation thanks Kathy Sherlock for her tireless efforts to coordinate our w**d harvest every year for the benefit of all!

PLEASE REMOVE FLOATING W**D FRAGMENTS FROM YOUR WATERFRONT SHORELINE to prevent reseeding. Let them dry on your lawn and compost them. Removing these nutrients from the lake is important to discourage further w**d growth!
Don’t forget to support the TLPF by attending our two events this coming week!

Spring Update from the TLPF !

Happy Spring to all! After a severe winter, the ice (which reached a thickness of at least 22 inches) has finally receded. Recent heavy rain means all of our stream inputs into the lake are flowing fast and flows of muddy water into the lake are visible at the major inputs. The sight of this is a ...
