Over the past week, the Aspen Acres fire in Southern Colorado has devastated over 90,000 acres of forest, destroyed more than 180 structures, and disrupted the lives of thousands of working families throughout the region. We already know of over 170 members from various unions who have been evacuated, with many losing their homes, and this disastrous fire is still less than 20% contained.

Events like the Aspen Acres fire are devastating for working families, but even in the most difficult times, efforts such as these show that the power of our union solidarity can help carry us through. Thank you for any support you can lend in this uplifting effort with our union family.

This Independence Day, we mark 250 years since the birth of the United States of America, and with that, 250 years of a society held together by the often thankless jobs of direct care workers; jobs that date back to American chattel slavery.

Care workers provide a life of dignity for the most vulnerable Americans: those who are elderly or living with illness or disabilities. They allow ALL of us to live with dignity because at some point, you or someone you know will depend on them.

However, a crisis is brewing in Colorado. Due to low pay and horrible working conditions, care workers are leaving the industry in droves while more and more Coloradans will soon depend on the care they provide.

To celebrate America's birthday, which began with the Bill of Rights, Direct Care Workers in Colorado are launching a campaign for their own Direct Care Worker Bill of Rights; three simple rights that will transform the care industry for workers and those who receive care:

✅ The Right to a Livable Wage
✅ The Right to a Secure Future
✅ The Right to a Union and a Seat at the Table

By ensuring these rights for all Direct Care Workers, we can tackle the care crisis head on, ensure all Coloradans have access to the care they depend on, and transform an industry that has been critical to this country since its inception.

We are in the final stretch of Colorado’s Primary Election and SEIU 105 members are leaving it all on the field. 🔥

Today we ran two canvasses across the Denver metro to ensure we get worker champions in office! We kicked things off at our union hall with Senator Julie Gonzales, Chela for Colorado, and Justine Sandoval! Three incredible women who are committed to putting working people first. 💪

We were joined by the legendary, Jane Fonda and the Jane Fonda Climate PAC, who spoke about the historical legacy these women are forming and the importance of electing real worker champions to ensure a more sustainable future for everyone.

Later, we turned around and headed to Broomfield to knock doors for Colorado WINS member, State Representative Kenny Van Nguyen. This is what power looks like when union members fight for real change!

40 years ago, Denver janitors organized for respect, dignity, and a union and changed the industry forever.

Today, Mayor Mike Johnston made it official: June 15th is Justice for Janitors Day in Denver! 💜💪🧹

Their fight built real standards that continue to provide for janitors across the Denver metro area four decades later.
