As we continue celebrating October’s Farmer and Farmworker Month, we invite you to take a closer look at the journey of our 2026 Farmworker of the Year, Enrique Contreras.

A special thank you to Beacon Studios for generously donating their time, talent, and effort to bring Enrique’s story to life and highlight how CFF supported him through some of his most difficult challenges.

Enrique’s journey reflects the work CFF does every day. We are honored that he trusted us to be part of his story, and we hope his experience encourages other farmworkers and families to reach out to us for support.

Stories like Enrique’s remind us that behind every person is a unique journey, a family, and a story worth sharing. Congratulations once again, Enrique, on this well-deserved recognition. We are honored to celebrate you and all you have overcome.

🌾 Meet Enrique Contreras, our 2026 Farmworker of the Year.

Enrique has spent more than 30 years working the land. After coming to the United States at just 17 years old, he built a life in Huron, California, where he worked in the fields growing lettuce, melons, tomatoes, and onions, while raising a family and becoming a grandfather of seven.

In 2015, Enrique was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and began dialysis. For the next decade, he faced the challenges of treatment while continuing to carry the same strength and perseverance that have defined his life.

In October 2024, Enrique came to the CFF Family Resource Center in Huron seeking support. Our team, including Edith Trujillo and Laura Madrid, helped him navigate appointments, transportation, medical documents, and healthcare services. As community health workers, we advocated alongside Enrique and his family throughout his journey, helping him reach the kidney transplant waiting list.

Then, in May 2026, after 10 years of dialysis, Enrique received the call that would change his life: a kidney had become available. He underwent a successful transplant at UC Davis Medical Center.

Today, Enrique’s story is one of perseverance, hope, and the power of community. We are honored to recognize him as our Farmworker of the Year and celebrate the strength he has shown throughout his journey. ❤️

Thank you, Enrique, for allowing us to be part of your story. We are proud to celebrate you. 🌾

Today in Delano, hope took a big step forward. 🌱

We are deeply grateful to Senator Melissa Hurtado for her $2 million contribution for the CFF Family Resource Center in Delano, a place where farmworker families will find essential services, support programs, and opportunities close to home.

Every meal begins with the hands of a farmworker. This Center exists to honor that work and to lift up the families and communities behind it, a safe and trusted place where farmworkers feel truly seen, heard, and empowered.

Thank you to everyone who joined us: elected officials, board members, community partners, farmworkers, and CFF staff. Special thanks to our speakers: Senator Melissa Hurtado, Tulare County Supervisor Larry Micari, Delano Vice Mayor Mario Nunez, and farmworker Melvin Archila, whose words reminded us why this work matters.

As the check was presented to CFF leadership, board, and staff, surrounded by so many supporters, one thing was clear: when we stand together, we build something that lasts.

This is only the beginning. 💚

Here’s a look inside what made this year’s Hand to Harvest Fundraising Dinner so special. 🌾❤️

Throughout the evening, our guests heard from the people who make CFF’s work so meaningful — including one of our Nueva Generación scholarship recipients, community partners, and staff who shared why this work matters and the impact CFF continues to make in farmworker communities.

From meaningful stories and exciting auction moments to celebrating our award recipients and spending time with our supporters, it was truly a night to remember. Thank you to everyone who shared their story, stepped onto the stage, donated, volunteered, attended, or helped make the evening possible.

We also want to recognize our current board members, featured in slide 17. Thank you for your time, leadership, and continued commitment to CFF. Although one of our board members, Jason Vega, was unable to join us for the evening, we are incredibly grateful for his continued support, leadership, and dedication to our organization.

To our past and present board members, featured in slide 18, thank you for the time and commitment you have given to CFF throughout the years. Your collective support has helped shape CFF into the organization it is today.

Congratulations to all of our award recipients and auction winners, and thank you to everyone who joined us for Hand to Harvest. We are grateful to celebrate 10 years of impact with you and look forward to many more. ❤️
