Jay was a pillar of our community—deeply loved, always kind, and forever looking out for those around him. Together with his wife, Amy, he spent a lifetime showing up for neighbors and lending a hand whenever it was needed.

I will never forget decades ago when my doorbell rang, complete strangers at the time, offering comfort and support during one of the hardest moments of my life. That was just who Jay was: a quiet, constant light in times of shadow.

It is with a broken and heavy heart that we share the news of his passing. He leaves behind a legacy of generosity that will never be forgotten, and he will be missed beyond measure.

Thank you Jay, for everything. Amy, we are here for you now if you need us.

In my life.
There were times we couldn't afford food. I was so hungry that everything hurt, and I shook.
I have also had a bounty of food and shared with others.
There were times I was homeless. In the cold with nowhere to go.
I have also helped others pay rent.
There were times I didn't have a car.
I have also given rides.
There were times I tried to dig up change in hopes I had enough for gas just to make it across town.
I have also given others gas money.
There were times I couldn't afford clothing; people gave my much-needed hand-me-downs.
I have also clothed others.
There were times I have been in the store, putting items back.
There were times the person in front of me was putting things back, and I paid the difference.
I could go on, a lot. We all have highs and lows in life, some certainly more than others, but we're all just trying to make it. We are all but human.
NO ONE is better than anyone else. It's sad anyone would think they are.
No matter how big your house is, how new your car is, or how much money sits in your bank account - our graves will be the same size. And when our last breath comes, I pray we were good people. For THAT is all that matters. Use your time wisely, for good. The ONLY thing that matters.
Stay humble. And never be too proud to ask for help.

TWO QUESTIONS: Is there an age limit for trick-or-treating?
AND with Pumpkin Lane being on Halloween this year, do you think Deer Park will have more or fewer trick-or-treaters than normal? Keep in mind a lot of out-of-towners come for Pumpkin Lane.

Here is an insane tidbit for you.
The population of Deer Park, Washington, grew by approximately 210% to 211% !
The population of Deer Park effectively tripled over 50 years, largely driven by residential expansion and growth across northern Spokane County.
I am not so sure that we are a small town anymore. :/
