📚 Story Time Tuesday: Back to School Means More

As students head back to school this week, we’re reminded that education isn’t always a given.

Did you know that about 60% of the young women who enter our program are either still in high school or have never completed high school?

When you’re worried about where you’re going to sleep, how you’re going to eat, or simply how you’re going to make it through the day, education almost always becomes secondary to survival.

That’s why a stable, loving home matters. ❤️

This week, one of our residents is doing something incredibly brave. At 19 years old, she is going back to school, determined to earn her high school diploma. 🎓

Our Case Manager is working closely with her and La Porte ISD to help remove barriers, provide accountability, and make sure she has the support she needs to keep moving forward.

This is what it looks like to meet people where they are and help them discover where they can be.

Sometimes transformation looks like getting a job or moving into your first apartment.

And sometimes it looks like walking back into a classroom at 19 and saying, “I’m not giving up on my future.” 💛

We’re cheering her on every step of the way.

✨ STORY TIME TUESDAY ✨

Sometimes growth doesn’t look like a graduation, a new job, or moving into your first apartment.

Sometimes growth looks like… everyday life. ❤️

🧹 Cleaning your space.
🛒 Grocery shopping and learning to budget.
🛞 Figuring out what to do when you get a flat tire.
📚 Sitting through a lecture when you’d rather be anywhere else.
🥘 Planning meals, prepping food, and learning how to take care of yourself.

These moments may not seem big enough to make the highlight reel—but this is where sustainable independence is built.

At Jane Around The World, we believe in meeting people where they are and walking alongside them as they discover where they can be. And that means showing up for the ordinary moments, too.

It takes perseverance on both sides.

For the volunteers, mentors, staff, donors, and community partners who keep showing up, teaching, encouraging, driving, listening, and loving…

And for our ladies who keep doing the work—learning, trying, failing, getting back up, and trying again.

“Let us not grow weary in doing good…” — Galatians 6:9

Because the everyday work matters.

The grocery trip matters.
The clean room matters.
The flat tire matters.
The meal prep matters.
The lecture matters.

Keep showing up. Keep doing the work. The harvest is coming. 🌱❤️

📖 Story Time Tuesday 💙

Sometimes the greatest gift you can give someone isn’t a handout—it’s refusing to let them give up on themselves.

Today we’re celebrating one of our incredible residents as she shares her journey to becoming a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). 🎉

The road wasn’t always easy. There were moments of doubt, obstacles that seemed impossible, and times when walking away felt like the easier choice. But at Jane Around The World, we saw the potential she couldn’t always see in herself.

We challenged her. We encouraged her. We stood beside her. We reminded her that her past didn’t determine her future.

Today, she’s living proof that transformation happens when someone believes in you long enough for you to believe in yourself.

At Jane Around The World, we don’t just provide shelter—we walk alongside each resident as they discover who they were created to be. We meet people where they are so they can discover where they can be.

📖 Story Time Tuesday 💙🚐

There are moments when God provides in ways that remind us we were never meant to do this alone.

Because of the incredible generosity of our community, Jane Around The World now has a van to help transport our Beth-Haran House residents.

To every donor, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter who helped make this possible… thank you. You didn’t just help us purchase a vehicle—you helped remove barriers and create opportunities for young women working hard to build a brighter future.

💛 But here’s the important part…

This van doesn’t replace our amazing volunteer transportation team—it makes them even more valuable.

Many of our residents have appointments, work schedules, and classes happening at the same time, often in different parts of the community. Our volunteer drivers continue to be the heart of getting each resident where she needs to be, building relationships and encouraging them along the way.

The van simply fills a gap for those times when we’re traveling together—Sunday mornings headed to church, community outings, service projects, grocery trips, special events, and other occasions where transporting several ladies at once just makes sense.

It truly takes a village.

Thank you for helping us move our mission forward—one ride, one conversation, and one life at a time. ❤️

📖 Story Time Tuesday

“Why is Fundamentals of Faith a part of your program?”

It’s a question we get asked from time to time.

At Beth-Haran House, we certainly help our ladies find jobs, earn driver’s licenses, enroll in school, learn budgeting, cook meals, and prepare for independent living. Those life skills matter.

But we’ve learned something important…

A changed life isn’t built on life skills alone. It’s built on a transformed heart.

That’s why Fundamentals of Faith is one of the most important classes in our program. Before we teach our residents how to manage a bank account, we want them to know their true identity. Before we talk about careers, we talk about purpose. Before we discuss independence, we point them to the One who offers lasting hope and freedom.

This class lays the foundation for everything else. It helps our ladies understand who God says they are, how to build a personal relationship with Him, and how to apply biblical truth to everyday decisions.

Because sustainable independence isn’t just about having a place to live or a paycheck to cash.

It’s about becoming whole.

When identity is rooted in Christ, confidence grows. When faith is strengthened, resilience follows. And when hope takes root, the future begins to look different.

Every session, we’re not just teaching a Bible class.

We’re helping lay a foundation that we pray will support these young women for the rest of their lives. ❤️
