Jose “Paul” Batista of Stop & Shop #2489 recently received his retirement watch in recognition of an incredible 48 years of service as a dedicated UFCW Local 1445 member and outstanding shop steward.

Paul represented his coworkers with pride, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to making sure their voices were heard. As his business agent, I could always count on him and knew the Allston store was in good hands with Paul looking out for the membership.

After nearly five decades of dedication, Paul has certainly earned this next chapter. We thank him for his many years of service to our union and his fellow members and wish him a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement!

Carey McDonald for State Senate has served as a Malden City Councillor since 2022, always supporting city workers and striving to make Malden a more affordable and welcoming place to live. In the State Senate, Carey will seek to build on this record and fight for statewide solutions to the affordability crisis.

Last month Carey visited the Malden Stop & Shop to speak with our members about issues impacting their lives, such as housing and groceries affordability, theft and crime in our stores, funding for city schools and government, and transparency on Beacon Hill. We know that as State Senator Carey will continue to listen to the needs of our members and working people across the 5th Middlesex district.
