Last month, we introduced Sandy Sandberg. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on our board secretary, Shel Long.
Shel brings creativity, organization, and a willingness to help wherever she is needed. She teaches occasional classes during Open Make Nights, giving members new ways to learn and create.
Shel also helps with Maker Camp, sharing her time and experience with our young makers and helping things run smoothly. Thank you, Shel, for all that you do!

Good evening, makers!

We’re kicking off a new monthly series highlighting the people who help make our makerspace possible.

First up is Jason “Sandy” Sandberg. Sandy serves on our board of directors and leads our space and facility planning. A talented designer, fabricator, and all around problem solver, he’s the kind of person who can turn an idea into reality.

He’s also one of our lead Maker Camp instructors and has designed and built props for many of our events. Whether he’s teaching, building, planning, or solving the next unexpected challenge, Sandy is always finding ways to make our makerspace better.

Thanks, Sandy, for everything you do!

Here are a few highlights from last week’s Maker Camp!
The kids spent the week experimenting, building, problem solving, and learning new skills through hands on projects. It is always fun to see what young makers can do when they have the tools, space, and encouragement to try something new.
We have a couple more weeks of Maker Camps coming up this July, and spots are limited. Check out our upcoming camps and sign up your young makers to come make with us!:

Tonight’s Open Make Night has been canceled.

After looking at the forecast, the radar, the timing maps, and consulting the ancient Midwestern tradition of standing on the porch and saying “I don’t like the look of that,” we’ve decided not to tempt fate.

The weather appears determined to schedule not one, but two rounds of “hold onto your lawn furniture” this evening, with storms expected during our normal Open Make Night hours.

Rather than risk anyone having to solder, sew, 3D print, or indoor-garden while wondering if their car is about to become airborne, we’re calling it for the night.

Stay home. Charge your phones. Secure your trash cans. Check on your neighbors.

Stay safe, Makers.
