📌 Biman plans to launch flights to the United States
🇧🇩 Biman Bangladesh Airlines has applied for permission to begin flights from Dhaka (DAC) to New York (JFK) 🇺🇲 with a stop in Izmir, Turkey (ADB) 🇹🇷. Flights are planned to operate 5x weekly using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Biman last flew to the U.S. in the mid-2000s.
Biman also seeks to have authority to fly to Boston, Houston, Los Angeles, Dallas, Washington D.C., and Newark.
Potential stopovers include Abu Dhabi, Rome, Brussels, Manchester, Birmingham, Istanbul, Delhi, and Amsterdam.
However, Bangladesh still has a FAA Category 2 safety rating. The FAA and Bangladesh's CAA are working towards Category 1, which will allow Biman to operate its own aircraft in the U.S. Biman asks the DOT to review its application but waits until Category 1 for a decision.
Biman also plans to launch three other international routes, as specified later in its application:
▪️Dhaka (DAC) to Chennai (MAA)
▪️Dhaka (DAC) to Sydney (SYD)
▪️Dhaka (DAC) to Rome (FCO)
