This morning, we had the privilege of attending the 33rd Annual MLK Breakfast presented by Decatur Morgan County Minority Development Association which includes a scholarship presentation honoring students from our city and county… One of the recipients previously participated as a Catrina in 2024, and we could not be prouder…
We are so proud of Mía and confident that she will achieve everything she sets her mind to… Congratulations, Mía, from all of us on the Downtown Decatur’s Corazón y Cultura Committee 🌟🎓

4th Annual Día De Los Mu***os Festival in Downtown Decatur Canceled for 2025
Decatur, AL – [Oct. 7, 2025] – After careful consideration and deliberation, the organizers of the Día De Los Mu***os Festival have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s 4th annual celebration in downtown Decatur. The decision comes in light of the current national climate surrounding immigration status and safety concerns, and our top priority remains the well -being of our community, attendees, and friends.

“Our hearts are with everyone who looks forward to this beloved celebration,” said Jesse Gonzalez, Committee Chairman for Día De Los Mu***os Decatur “While this was not an easy choice, we believe it is the right one to ensure the safety and security of all participants.”

During this time, our committee is focusing on establishing our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status which will be known under the name of Downtown Decatur’s Corazón y Cultura (Heart and Culture). This milestone will allow us to expand our mission of celebrating and sharing culture in ways that unite our community. Through vibrant downtown events, we aim to create inclusive spaces where people of all
backgrounds can experience and learn about Latino culture while embracing the rich diversity of Decatur.

In addition to cultural celebrations, Corazón y Cultura will invest in the future of our community by awarding scholarships to underserved, first-generation students pursuing higher education. Securing nonprofit status will enable us to grow our events to even greater heights and broaden our cultural programming.

Looking ahead, we plan not only to host the cherished Día De Los Mu***os celebration but also to launch a series of inclusive downtown events including Cinco de Mayo, Día del Grito, and Posada de Navidad—creating a year-round movement of culture, connection, and opportunity for all.

“We are committed to making Downtown Decatur a hub of culture and community,” added Emma Martin, Communication Director at Decatur Morgan County Tourism “This pause will allow this committee to build an even stronger foundation so that our next celebration will be bigger, more inclusive, and more vibrant than ever.”

Se cancela el 4.º Festival Anual del Día de los Mu***os en el centro de Decatur para 2025
Decatur, AL – [7 de octubre de 2025] – Después de consideración cuidadosa y deliberación, los organizadores del Festival del Día de los Mu***os han tomado la difícil decisión de cancelar la cuarta celebración anual programada para este año en el centro de Decatur.
Esta decisión se ha tomado a luz del clima actual nacional en torno al estatus migratorio y las preocupaciones por la seguridad. Nuestra principal prioridad sigue siendo el bienestar de nuestra comunidad, asistentes y amigos.
“Nuestros corazones están con todos aquellos que esperan con entusiasmo esta querida celebración”, dijo Jesse Gonzalez, presidente del comité del Día de los Mu***os Decatur. “Aunque no fue una decisión fácil, creemos que es la correcta para garantizar la seguridad y protección de todos los participantes.”
Durante este tiempo, nuestro comité se enfocará en establecer nuestro estatus como organización sin fines de lucro 501(c)(3) que se conocerá bajo el nombre Downtown Decatur’s Corazón y Cultura. Este logro nos permitirá ampliar nuestra misión de celebrar y compartir la cultura de formas que unan a nuestra comunidad.
A través de eventos vibrantes en el centro de la ciudad, buscamos crear espacios inclusivos donde personas de todos los orígenes puedan experimentar y aprender sobre la cultura latina, al mismo tiempo que celebran la rica diversidad de Decatur.
Además de las celebraciones culturales, Corazón y Cultura invertirá en el futuro de nuestra comunidad al otorgar becas a estudiantes de primera generación y de comunidades desatendidas que buscan continuar su educación superior.
