Flamingo Gardens

Flamingo Gardens Established in 1927, Flamingo Gardens is one of the oldest botanical gardens in South Florida.
(2117)

Spend the day in this 60 acre botanical garden and Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary, with rescued native wildlife, some of South Florida's oldest and last remaining jungle forest, the Wray Home Museum, and 22 FL Champion Trees- the largest of their species. The 60-acre not-for-profit botanical garden contains over 3,000 tropical and sub-tropical species of plants and trees and its Everglades Wildlife

Sanctuary is home to the largest collection of Florida native wildlife in the state. With some of the last natural jungle growth in South Florida, the Wray Botanical Collection at Flamingo Gardens includes 21 of the largest trees of their species and a unique hammock of 200-year-old Live Oak trees. The Historic Wray Home has been restored and is now a museum which provides a glimpse of life in the 1930s. The Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary gives residence to permanently injured and non-releasable wildlife and is home to 83 species of Florida native birds and animals including alligators, panthers, bobcats, otters, eagles, peacocks, and of course flamingos. The half-acre Free-flight Aviary boasts over 250 birds representing 45 species. In the last 20 years birds in the Aviary have produced over 2,000 offspring which have been released into the wild.

Friday’s VIP Preview Reception brought a special honor for Bentley and Treena, our two new American black bear cubs. The Town of Davie, Broward County, and State of Florida Representative Chip LaMarca each recognized “Bentley and Treena Day” through proclamations and a tribute celebrating the cubs’ arrival at Flamingo Gardens.

Proclamations and tributes like these help raise awareness about wildlife conservation and recognize Flamingo Gardens’ mission of connecting people with nature while providing a safe sanctuary for animals that cannot survive in the wild.

We are grateful to Mayor Judy Paul, Vice Mayor Michelle Whitman, Commissioner Steve Geller, and Representative Chip LaMarca for helping raise awareness about wildlife conservation and Florida’s native wildlife.

Here are more photos of Bentley and Treena, rescued American black bear cubs and our newest residents. We’re obsessed with them. Aren’t you?

Bentley and Treena came to us from the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve In Dahlonega, GA, who cared for them as infants after their mother was tragically killed. They were named after the Bent Tree community that rescued them. Photos by Lorenzo Cassina.
