Yes, we are eyeballs deep in kittens. It takes a village - ours has cats!
WALMART UPDATE: 15 KITTENS SAFE… AND A COMMUNITY COMING TOGETHER! ❤️🐾
Remember the Walmart situation we shared? Well, there has been quite an update!
We took in 7 more kittens last night, bringing the total number of kittens brought to safety to 15. And what started as an overwhelming situation for one organization has truly become a community effort.
We have some very special organizations to thank:
❤️ Cats of Davidson stepped up in a BIG way, taking 12 kittens into their care, including several of the very sick babies we had been caring for. Their willingness to open their doors and take on this additional responsibility has made an enormous difference.
❤️ Bella Vita, a very small rescue in Statesville, is providing emergency nursing and supportive care for one kitten who we weren't sure was going to make it. Sometimes the smallest organizations have the biggest hearts, and we are so grateful they stepped forward when help was desperately needed.
That leaves Lucky Cat with two kittens still in our care. One of those babies needs an enucleation (surgical removal of an eye), and we are working to secure an appointment as quickly as possible.
But here's what makes this story even more encouraging…
While our rescue partners are stepping up to care for the kittens, Lucky Cat can put more of its energy where it is needed most: addressing the adult cat population through spay/neuter.
In fact, four of the Walmart situation cats went in for spay/neuter today! Thank you Community Pets Mobile Veterinary Clinic (Dr Welch!).
This is what progress looks like. Not simply moving kittens from one place to another, but addressing the underlying problem so that more kittens aren't born into the same circumstances.
We also want to thank every single person who has contributed financially, donated food, transported cats/kittens, shared our posts, offered assistance, or simply encouraged us along the way. Your generosity is helping provide food, medical care, and the resources needed to keep this effort moving forward.
And to Cats of Davidson and Bella Vita: THANK YOU for answering the call. Your willingness to take on some of these babies has lifted an enormous burden and allowed us to concentrate more of our efforts on the spay/neuter work that will ultimately stabilize this situation.
This is why collaboration matters.
No one organization can do everything. But when rescues, spay/neuter organizations, donors, volunteers, and concerned community members each step forward to do what they can, the collective impact is extraordinary.
Fifteen kittens are now out of harm's way. The first four cats were fixed today. And we are one step closer to stabilizing a situation that could otherwise continue producing litter after litter.
We are beyond grateful to everyone who has become part of this effort. It truly takes a village, and ours has shown up in a big way.
Rescue gives the kittens a chance. Spay/Neuter gives the next generation a chance not to be born into the same circumstances.
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much". -Helen Keller
Individual human effort is limited but collaboration, teamwork, and unity allow people to achieve much greater goals.
And 'together', we will fix the future. ❤️🐾
