Our next Member Spotlight is Carolyn Graham! Carolyn works at the Iowa 80 CAT Scale Company and has been a general member of the Jaycees of the Quad Cities for a year and a half. While Carolyn stays busy with many hobbies in her free time, her favorite is Dungeons and Dragons.

This year, Carolyn is proud to serve on the Wine & Chocolate Experience Planning Committee for the first time as one of our graphic designers. When asked what got her interested in joining the committee, Carolyn answered, “The people! Everyone on the team is just so much fun to be around, and it’s been a treat getting to know everyone better through working with them on this event.” While she wasn’t a member of the committee last year, Carolyn heard the event was a blast, and this year she is looking forward to seeing people having a great time with others from their community.

Carolyn is part of Team Chocolate. While she is a firm believer that all chocolate is delicious and she’s never met a type she doesn’t like, Carolyn’s favorite form is a delectable dark chocolate truffle. Her favorite wine? A glass of Moscato.
As the work on the Wine & Chocolate Experience continues, Carolyn can’t wait for the satisfaction of seeing people enjoy the event that we’ve all put time and care into -- a feeling the rest of the committee members can’t wait to experience, either!

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of equality.

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is a day to reflect on our nation's history, celebrate Black culture and achievements, and continue building stronger, more inclusive communities.

We believe that bringing people together creates opportunities for connection, understanding, and positive change.

Today, we celebrate the richness of Black history, the power of community, and the joy that comes from sharing stories, traditions, and experiences with one another.

Happy Juneteenth from all of us at the Wine & Chocolate Experience. ❤️🖤💚

For this Monday Member Spotlight, we are proud to introduce Wylie Halferty. Wylie is a Licensed Funeral Director who has been a member of the Jaycees of the Quad Cities since February of 2023, most recently serving in the role of Treasurer. When he is not busy balancing budgets, you can catch Wylie teeing up on the golf course.

Wylie has been on the Wine & Chocolate Experience's planning committee since the event’s inception three years ago. Wylie first got interested in joining the planning committee because he loves wine and thinks this is a great event to raise money for our mission. This year, he is putting his Treasurer expertise to use by handling the finances for the event.

Wylie is a proud member of Team Wine and enjoys a nice glass of Cabernet. While he doesn’t claim to be part of Team Chocolate, he does enjoy dark chocolate from time to time.

When asked what his favorite part of last year’s experience was, Wylie said he enjoyed seeing all of the new attendees and their excitement for the event. This year, he looks forward to a record turnout and raising more money for charity!

Today we introduce our next fearless leader, Co-Chair Samantha Sharp! Sam is both an Occupational Therapist at MercyOne and a Deputy Coroner in Rock Island County who has been a member of the Jaycees of the Quad Cities for 2.5 years. Currently a Board Member, Sam serves as our Vice President of Community Development. When she’s not coordinating community involvement opportunities, Sam enjoys hiking, reading, cheering on the Iowa Hawks, and working out.

While this is her first year as Co-Chair, Sam is no stranger to the Wine & Chocolate Experience. She first joined the committee last year as a way to make connections in and an impact on her local community. And make an impact she did! Serving as Volunteer Coordinator, Sam ensured the night went off without a hitch by placing Jaycees members and other volunteers at each station within the event, and moving station to station herself throughout the night.

Much like her Co-Chair Charmaine, Sam, too, is a member of both Team Wine and Team Chocolate. Sam only drinks sweeter wines, joking that she is a basic girl who loves a good Moscato. When it comes to chocolate, her favorite is a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.

Last year, Sam’s favorite part of the Wine & Chocolate Experience was seeing all the wonderful attendees enjoying themselves. This year, she looks forward to continuing her work in the community and making an even bigger impact with the help of all the amazing committee members! Under the leadership of her and her co-chair, we look forward to another incredible night of connecting with our community through sweet sips and tasty treats.

As our team begins work on this year’s Wine & Chocolate Experience, we wanted to take some time to introduce the members of our planning committee:

First up, we’re introducing one of our co-chairs, Charmaine Sibley! Charmaine is an accountant who has been a member of the Jaycees of the Quad Cities for the last five years. Currently, she serves in the role of State Representative. When she’s not crunching numbers or working with different Jaycees chapters across Iowa, Charmaine loves to cook!

As an original co-chair of this event, Charmaine has been involved in the Wine & Chocolate Experience since its inception -- not only planning the event, but also volunteering and floating job-to-job to ensure the night goes off without a hitch! During last year’s event, Charmaine’s favorite part of the experience was watching everyone enjoy the human slot machine. This year, she is looking forward to enhancing the overall experience for our VIP guests.

After being first introduced to wine during a high school trip to visit her cousin in California, Charmaine is a proud member of both Team Wine and Team Chocolate. Her favorite wine depends on the time of year; in the summer, she prefers a Sauvignon Blanc, and in the winter, a Cabernet Sauvignon. Regardless of which she’s choosing, she always enjoys pairing it with a nice medium rare steak. When it comes to chocolate, Charmaine’s favorite form is a brownie -- specifically, a corner piece.

When asked what interested Charmaine in The Wine & Chocolate Experience, she explained, “I love wine and chocolate, and I also wanted to test myself in the co-chair role, as I hadn’t planned an event from the ground up before.” Heading into year three, we can attest that Charmaine has proven herself a fearless leader and we look forward to seeing this event continue to grow with her and her co-chair Samantha Sharp at the helm!
