🐾 For some veterans, independence has four paws.

September is Service Dog Awareness Month, and we’re proud to recognize the incredible dogs and organizations that help veterans regain independence, confidence, and a sense of security.

Behind every service dog is countless hours of training, dedication, trust, and an extraordinary bond between a veteran and their K9 partner.

At Veterans K9Equine Alliance, our role is to help support the animals doing this important work. Through nutritional and veterinary assistance, we help our nonprofit partners focus on what they do best: changing the lives of veterans.

For the first time, four local veteran organizations are coming together for one special event.

Following the 1st Annual Afghanistan & Iraq Veterans War Memorial Ceremony, join Veterans K9Equine Alliance, VFW Post 10201, VFW Post 149, and DAV Chapter 25 at Twins BBQ Co. for an afternoon of camaraderie, remembrance, and support for our shared missions.

September is National Su***de Prevention Month.

For many veterans, the battles don’t always end when the uniform comes off. Some struggles are visible. Others are carried quietly every single day.

This month is a reminder to check in, reach out, listen, and remind the veterans in our lives that they do not have to face those battles alone.

At Veterans K9Equine Alliance, we see the incredible role that connection can play in healing. Sometimes that connection comes from family or a friend. Sometimes it comes with four paws or four hooves. What matters is knowing there is still hope and there is still someone beside you.

Veterans K9Equine Alliance will be at Bad Sons B**r Co. in Derby, CT this Sunday, September 6, for their Dog Days of Summer event!

Come out starting at 1 PM and enjoy an afternoon with your four-legged friends featuring vendors, lick paintings, complimentary pup-cuterie boards, and more.

Our friends and partners at Healing Hoofbeats of CT are hosting their Operation Warrior Horse Men’s Fall Retreat, a FREE 24-hour, farm-based experience created specifically for veterans.

📅 September 26–27, 2026
📍 Bethlehem, Connecticut
💲 FREE for veterans

Participants will spend 24 hours working alongside licensed mental health professionals and Healing Hoofbeats’ Animal Healers, with a focus on understanding triggers, nervous system responses, building awareness, and learning strategies that can help with the transition and challenges of civilian life.

We’ve seen firsthand the incredible work being done at Healing Hoofbeats of CT, and we’re proud to support an organization creating opportunities like this for our veteran community.
