Mission: To Help Danbury Public School Students Achieve Personal and Academic Success. The long-term goal is dropout prevention.

Danbury Student and Business Connection (DSABC) manages two School Based Mentoring Programs as well as a Scholarship Program to support students in Danbury Public Schools. The One-on-One Mentoring Program matches a supportive and caring adult who assists students to succeed in school by developing a one-on-one relationship. Mentors serve as a positive adult role model providing moral support and encouragement. The objective of the program is to improve academic performance, attendance, behavior, attitude toward school, and most importantly, self-esteem and motivation. The One-on-One Mentoring Program uses adult volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a young person for a period of at least one school year. By becoming part of the school network of adults and community members who care about the youth, the mentor can help students develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals. The mentor works with school staff to provide extra support, encouragement and attention to help the student achieve his or her potential. The Workplace Learning E-Mentoring Program matches an industry mentor with students enrolled in the Early College Opportunity Program (Danbury ECO) at Danbury High School. Danbury ECO is designed to provide participating students with opportunities to prepare for postsecondary education and career readiness. Students enrolled in the program can earn college credits, and students who graduate from Danbury ECO will not only earn a high school diploma but an associate degree from Naugatuck Valley Community College. Mentors provide guidance and advice on developing workplace skills and work together on assigned activities via an online platform and several face to face group meetings throughout the school year. The long-term goal is for students to obtain internships and enter the workforce with the necessary skills for success. DSABC presents a scholarship to students participating in the One-on-One Mentor Program upon high school graduation. The scholarship can be applied to any post-secondary educational pursuit and is renewable for up to four years. Since its inception in 1997, DSABC has presented 204 students with $322,000 in scholarship.

The future of our community starts with the opportunities we create for our students today.

We're grateful to Bedoukian for supporting DSABC and our mission to help Danbury students build confidence, discover their potential, and prepare for what's ahead.

When local businesses invest in students, they're doing more than giving back. They're helping strengthen the community we all share.

A night out can make a difference.

We were grateful to be part of Leadership Greater Danbury’s Sip4Support at Golf Lounge 18, an evening that brought people together while shining a light on local nonprofits.

DSABC had the opportunity to connect with new members of our community, share more about our work, and introduce more people to the impact of mentorship in Danbury.

And together, the night raised more than $8,000 for the four featured nonprofits.

Thank you to Leadership Greater Danbury for creating a space where community, connection, and giving could come together.

What happens when students get the chance to learn directly from the professionals shaping their future? The possibilities are endless.

Last year, our Connect to Careers program brought Danbury students together with industry professionals from Boehringer Ingelheim through a powerful partnership between DSABC, Junior Achievement of Greater Fairfield County, and the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation.

Through mentorship, collaboration, and real-world challenges, students explored careers in science and medicine, developed new skills, and discovered what they’re capable of achieving. More than learning about future careers, they gained the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, and connect with professionals who helped bring their learning to life.

This week, we’re kicking off a brand-new cohort, building on the connections and impact of last year and creating even more opportunities for Danbury students to see what’s possible for their futures.

This is what happens when schools, businesses, and community partners come together to invest in the next generation.

Mentorship starts with communication. Real connection makes it last.

In her third year as a DSABC mentor, Pamela Brown is sharing an important reminder: building a meaningful relationship with a student means meeting them where they are, learning how they communicate, and making the effort to truly connect.

In a world where technology is constantly competing for our attention, genuine connection still comes down to showing up, listening, and making someone feel heard. Sometimes, the most important thing a mentor can do is put the distractions aside and simply be present.

Thank you, Pamela, for three years of showing up for your mentee and reminding us what mentorship is all about.

Mentorship starts with connection, and that connection extends beyond the student.

Last month, we had the opportunity to connect with parents across Danbury Public Schools during multiple open houses.

We shared more about DSABC, our mentoring programs, and the opportunities available to students through our partnerships with the business and community.

We’re grateful to the families who stopped to talk with us, ask questions, and learn more about how mentorship can support their students.

Because when schools, families, businesses, and community members come together, students have an even stronger network behind them.

We were honored to receive the People First Impact Award from the Governor’s Prevention Partnership for putting relationships and opportunity at the center of our work with Danbury students.

That recognition means a lot to us because it reflects what we see every day: when a student has a trusted adult in their corner, something changes.
