Danbury Student and Business Connection

Danbury Student and Business Connection Mission: To Help Danbury Public School Students Achieve Personal and Academic Success. The long-term goal is dropout prevention.

Danbury Student and Business Connection (DSABC) manages two School Based Mentoring Programs as well as a Scholarship Program to support students in Danbury Public Schools. The One-on-One Mentoring Program matches a supportive and caring adult who assists students to succeed in school by developing a one-on-one relationship. Mentors serve as a positive adult role model providing moral support and e

ncouragement. The objective of the program is to improve academic performance, attendance, behavior, attitude toward school, and most importantly, self-esteem and motivation. The One-on-One Mentoring Program uses adult volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a young person for a period of at least one school year. By becoming part of the school network of adults and community members who care about the youth, the mentor can help students develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals. The mentor works with school staff to provide extra support, encouragement and attention to help the student achieve his or her potential. The Workplace Learning E-Mentoring Program matches an industry mentor with students enrolled in the Early College Opportunity Program (Danbury ECO) at Danbury High School. Danbury ECO is designed to provide participating students with opportunities to prepare for postsecondary education and career readiness. Students enrolled in the program can earn college credits, and students who graduate from Danbury ECO will not only earn a high school diploma but an associate degree from Naugatuck Valley Community College. Mentors provide guidance and advice on developing workplace skills and work together on assigned activities via an online platform and several face to face group meetings throughout the school year. The long-term goal is for students to obtain internships and enter the workforce with the necessary skills for success. DSABC presents a scholarship to students participating in the One-on-One Mentor Program upon high school graduation. The scholarship can be applied to any post-secondary educational pursuit and is renewable for up to four years. Since its inception in 1997, DSABC has presented 204 students with $322,000 in scholarship.

September is here, and we’re ready for a new year of connection, growth, and possibility!

A new school year means new students, new mentors, new relationships, and new opportunities to make a difference across Danbury.

And some of those relationships are continuing right where they left off.

Each year, we see mentors and mentees choose to continue their matches into another school year. What may have started as one hour a week becomes a relationship built on trust, consistency, and genuine connection.

That is the kind of impact we hope to create: relationships that students and mentors want to keep building.

From mentoring and student experiences to community partnerships and everything happening behind the scenes, there is a lot ahead for DSABC.

Here’s a look at what we have coming up this month.

And as always, things have a way of popping up along the way, so be sure to follow along. We’ll be sharing the people, stories, and moments that make DSABC what it is.

Let’s make it a great year, Danbury!

We have some exciting news to share!

DSABC has been selected to receive the People First Impact Award from the Governor’s Prevention Partnership for putting relationships and opportunities at the center of our work with Danbury students.

And honestly, that is what mentorship is all about.

It is a student knowing someone will show up for them.
It is having someone who listens, encourages, and believes in what is possible.
It is creating opportunities that help students discover new paths and see a future they may not have imagined.

We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition, but even more proud of the community that makes this work possible.

To our mentors, students, schools, families, business partners, and everyone who continues to believe in the power of connection, thank you.

This award belongs to all of us.

We are grateful to the Governor’s Prevention Partnership for recognizing the impact of putting people first. We cannot wait to keep building what comes next for Danbury students.

A new school year. A fresh start. So much possibility.

Welcome back, Danbury!

Today, students are walking through school doors with new classrooms, new teachers, new goals, and maybe a few nerves about what this year will bring.

At DSABC, we are excited for another year of showing students that they have people in their corner who believe in them.

This year will be filled with new connections, meaningful conversations, opportunities to explore the future, and moments that remind us why mentorship matters.

To our students: we believe in you. Be curious. Try something new. Ask questions. Give yourself permission to grow.

To our mentors, educators, families, and community partners: thank you for showing up. The impact you make may not always be visible right away, but the relationships you build can stay with a student for years to come.

Here’s to a school year filled with confidence, connection, growth, and possibility.

Let’s make this one count, Danbury. We’re ready!

Fairfield County Bank has selected DSABC as one of four local charities to be part of their Back to School giving initiative!

We are incredibly grateful to be included alongside other organizations doing meaningful work in our community. This opportunity gives our community a chance to support the work we do to connect Danbury students with mentors, opportunities, and the people who help them see what is possible.

And here’s where you come in...

You can vote for DSABC once every day!

Every vote is another way to show that our community believes in investing in students and building stronger futures right here in Danbury.

If DSABC has ever made you feel connected to our mission, encouraged you to become a mentor, supported a student you know, or simply made you proud of what is happening in our community, we’d be so grateful for your vote.

Vote once today. Come back tomorrow and vote again. And share this with someone who believes in the power of mentorship!

Thank you to Fairfield County Bank for choosing DSABC and for creating opportunities for local organizations to grow their impact. We are so excited to be part of it!

Strong communities are powered by partnerships.

When organizations invest in young people, they are investing in the future of our community.

Thank you to Eversource for supporting DSABC and helping us continue our mission of connecting students with caring mentors who inspire confidence, encourage growth, and open doors to new opportunities.

Partnerships like this allow us to expand our impact, strengthen our mentoring programs, and ensure more students across Danbury have someone in their corner.

We are grateful to have as part of the DSABC community and look forward to the impact we'll continue to make together.

Thank you for believing in the power of mentorship and the potential of our students.

A new school year means a new opportunity to change a student's life.

This fall, students across Danbury will walk through their school doors hoping to learn, grow, and discover what's possible.

Some of them will also meet a mentor who will encourage them, challenge them, and remind them they are capable of more than they imagined.

As we prepare for our fall mentor matches, we're looking for caring adults ready to make a lasting impact.

Could this be the year you become someone's mentor?

The greatest investment we can make in our community is not just in programs or initiatives. It is in people.

When students have someone in their corner, they are more likely to believe in themselves, pursue new opportunities, and see a future full of possibility.

That is why mentorship matters. Every conversation, every connection, and every hour spent together helps shape the leaders of tomorrow.

At DSABC, we believe strong communities are built through strong partnerships. That's why we're honored to be one of four local nonprofits selected to benefit from Sip 4 Support, hosted by the Greater Danbury Chamber Leadership Class of 2026.

On Thursday, September 17, join us at Golf Lounge 18 at the Danbury Fair Mall for an evening of networking, great food and drinks, golf simulator fun, and community impact.

Funds raised through this event will help DSABC continue connecting students with caring mentors, career exploration opportunities, and experiences that build confidence, character, and brighter futures. Proceeds will also support three incredible organizations making a difference throughout Greater Danbury:

* The Center for Empowerment and Education
* Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS)
* Housatonic Habitat for Humanity

There are many ways to get involved:
• Become a sponsor
• Donate a raffle item
• Make a monetary donation
• Attend the event and support local nonprofits

Whether you're a longtime supporter or learning about DSABC for the first time, your support helps us continue creating meaningful mentor relationships and empowering the next generation of leaders.

We hope to see you on September 17!
