Danbury Student and Business Connection

Danbury Student and Business Connection Mission: To Help Danbury Public School Students Achieve Personal and Academic Success. The long-term goal is dropout prevention.

Danbury Student and Business Connection (DSABC) manages two School Based Mentoring Programs as well as a Scholarship Program to support students in Danbury Public Schools. The One-on-One Mentoring Program matches a supportive and caring adult who assists students to succeed in school by developing a one-on-one relationship. Mentors serve as a positive adult role model providing moral support and e

ncouragement. The objective of the program is to improve academic performance, attendance, behavior, attitude toward school, and most importantly, self-esteem and motivation. The One-on-One Mentoring Program uses adult volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a young person for a period of at least one school year. By becoming part of the school network of adults and community members who care about the youth, the mentor can help students develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals. The mentor works with school staff to provide extra support, encouragement and attention to help the student achieve his or her potential. The Workplace Learning E-Mentoring Program matches an industry mentor with students enrolled in the Early College Opportunity Program (Danbury ECO) at Danbury High School. Danbury ECO is designed to provide participating students with opportunities to prepare for postsecondary education and career readiness. Students enrolled in the program can earn college credits, and students who graduate from Danbury ECO will not only earn a high school diploma but an associate degree from Naugatuck Valley Community College. Mentors provide guidance and advice on developing workplace skills and work together on assigned activities via an online platform and several face to face group meetings throughout the school year. The long-term goal is for students to obtain internships and enter the workforce with the necessary skills for success. DSABC presents a scholarship to students participating in the One-on-One Mentor Program upon high school graduation. The scholarship can be applied to any post-secondary educational pursuit and is renewable for up to four years. Since its inception in 1997, DSABC has presented 204 students with $322,000 in scholarship.

Mentorship builds confidence before the world asks for it.

Before interviews.
Before college.
Before big decisions.

That is why it matters.

Mentorship doesn't only happen during weekly meetings.

It happens when we show up for our community.

At DSABC, you'll find us at local events, celebrating with the City of Danbury, connecting through the Chamber, and building relationships beyond the classroom. Every conversation, every handshake, and every shared experience strengthens the network of support around our students.

Because sometimes the most meaningful mentorship starts with simply being present.

Strong relationships start with strong support systems.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Savings Bank of Danbury Foundation, DSABC is expanding resources that help mentors and mentees navigate emotions, build resilience, and strengthen their mental well-being.

This funding will provide activities, tools, and conversation starters that help students better understand their feelings and develop healthy coping skills. It will also support our Mentor Matters Workshop next January, equipping mentors with valuable resources and strategies to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

We are grateful to the Savings Bank of Danbury Foundation and for investing in the well-being of our students, mentors, and community.

When we support the mental health of young people and the adults who guide them, we create stronger connections and brighter futures for everyone.

It’s hard to put into words what Tuesday morning meant.

16 seniors.
Years of mentorship.
Moments that built confidence, direction, and belief.

This was more than a celebration.
It was a reflection of what happens when a community invests in its students.

This is DSABC.

In just a few days, we will gather to celebrate one of the most meaningful mornings of the year at DSABC.

On June 2, we will recognize 16 graduating seniors, the largest scholarship class in recent history, alongside the mentors who helped guide, encourage, and believe in them along the way.

We are also proud to celebrate our mentor milestone honorees, recognizing mentors who have dedicated 5, 10, 15, 20, and even 35 years to supporting Danbury students. A special recognition will honor Kathi for an incredible 35 years of mentoring, nearly as long as DSABC itself has existed.

These celebrations reflect years of commitment, encouragement, persistence, and the lasting impact of mentorship in our community.

We look forward to sharing this special morning with all of you.

One of the most powerful things we hear from students is simple.

“Can I see my mentor again this year?”

One-on-one mentoring creates relationships that last beyond a single school year.

It gives students someone in their corner as they grow, plan, and make decisions about what comes next.

Consistency changes confidence.

Confidence changes futures.

Students recently heard from local business owners about what it takes to build something from the ground up.

Thank you to Ann Cassarella, Doug Polistena, and Annamaria Jones for sharing their experiences as entrepreneurs and leaders in the Danbury community.

When students meet people building businesses where they live, leadership starts to feel closer and more possible.

Big things are happening at this year’s DSABC Scholarship & Awards Breakfast!

Together, we’ll celebrate:
✨ 16 incredible student scholarship recipients
✨ Mentors reaching milestone anniversaries
✨ The community partnerships helping students grow in confidence, leadership, and direction through one-on-one mentoring

When local businesses and community members show up for students, the impact lasts far beyond graduation.

This breakfast is more than an event. It’s a celebration of mentorship, opportunity, and the future of our community.

We’re so grateful to the sponsors and supporters already helping make this morning possible, and there’s still time to be part of it!

Purchase your tickets and join us in celebrating the students, mentors, and connections changing lives every day.
